On Sunday 26 October, the entire Jo’burg office descended on Marks Park
Sports Club very early in the morning, to take part in the iThemba Crusade
of Hope breast cancer Walkathon 2014!
iThemba believes that community education and awareness are key to
early detection. The more women know about breast cancer, the more
women will be encouraged to do monthly self-examinations and annual
mammograms. The event aims to educate the public on breast
cancer and breast health, increase awareness and empower women.
Airborne Insurance took part in the 5km and 8km walk, along with hundreds’
of other participants, including the four legged variety.

Airborne Insurance sponsored cycling shirts for The Bateleurs – Flying for the
Environment in Africa cycling team. The Bateleurs are a South African non-
profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO) whose members are pilots.
They donate their time, aviation skills and the use of their own aircrafts to
support conservation and the environment in Africa. To learn more about

BETTERMENT CLAUSE
Amounts to be Deducted from a claim:
Except where the Insurers exercise their option to pay for or replace the
Aircraft, there shall be deducted from the claim, under the Hull section of
the claim, the following:
• the amount specified as the Deductible/Excess as shown in the Schedule;
and
• such proportion of the Overhaul Cost of any Unit repaired or replaced
as the used time bears to the Overhaul Life of the Unit. (Betterment)
The Berg Bush mountain bike race is an extremely popular multistage
mountain bike race held in the Drakensberg, Kwazulu-Natal during
October each year.
The Race format this year was a 3 day stage race on 14 (95km), 15
(65km) and 16 (65km) October. Scott Smith, Managing Director, Airborne
Insurance and Neil Howard, Group Chief Executive Officer, Absolute
Aviation rode the race for the second year, and finished without incident in
a time of 15 hours 14 minutes. And came 153rd.
The Berg Bush race has raised and donated almost R70 000’s worth
of library books and furniture to the local community to stimulate literacy
in the area.
The race traverses the Spioenkop Mountain where the battle of Spioenkop
took place in January 1900. This historic battle between the English and the
Boers is where approximately 300 soldiers lost their lives. It’s a fascinating

iconic individuals were a part of the battle included Mohandas (Mahatma)
Gandhi, Winston Churchill, General Louis Botha and Deneys Reitz.
