This movie trailer uses many and goes against many of the typical conventions
found in a romantic genre trailer. The clip begins with a close up of the main
character which is a typical Hollywood heartthrob who is usually found in these
types of movies. This immediately helps the audience to establish the movie
genre. Then by the other women saying 'You don't remember my name do you?'
immediately brings in the romantic tone of the movie. The trailer then plays some
upbeat music which helps to connote happiness and implies the movie won't be a
serious one, and if it is it will only be a subtle undertone. Then to enforce the
comic tone into the trailer they use many different characters in an amusing way.
This part also brings in different characters which are usually found within a girls
friendship group, showing the audience the film will be aimed at women as there
is something for them to relate to.
The inter-titles help to set the tone of the movie, helping the audience to
understand the plot better, this is a typical convention because it saves using a
voice over.
The next part of the trailer is where it begins to challenge typical conventions.
Cutting to a scene with the male character talking about the situation to his
friend, this is unusual because stereotypicaly the women are known to do this.
Next the audience are shown a clip of the women piratically enforcing the fact
that she is very career driven and is avoiding commitment. This is extremely
unusual as in romantic comedies it is usually the women trying to hold down the
mans affections.
Next is where the audience see that actually the man is the one who begins to fall
for the women. There is then a voice over from one of his friends basically
reminding him of how a man should be behaving.
Throughout this movie trailer the audience see that actually this movie stands out
among most romantic comedy movies. This is due to the fact that unlike the

'norm', in this movie the women is actually the one who is the more dominant
figure in the relationship who is the one being chased. This goes against all typical
expectations of a movie within this genre. However, due to the; fast pass, the
non-diegetic upbeat music and the funny script, the trailer still uses some typical
conventions of the genre in order to keep the existing audience so it still eels
familiar to them.
