Seneca High School's Hunger Games Project was a district-wide initiative where the entire school community read and engaged with the same young adult novel over the summer. For the 2011-2012 school year, the selected book was The Hunger Games. A committee planned numerous activities to be carried out throughout the year to generate excitement and competition around the themes of the book, including dividing the school into 12 fictional districts, holding a live "reaping" to select student "tributes" from each district, staging an academic pep rally modeled after events in the book, and awarding points to districts. The goal was to develop enthusiasm for reading and build school spirit.
