Neda Agha-Soltan was a 26-year-old Iranian woman who was shot and killed during protests of the 2009 Iranian presidential election. Video footage of her death was widely spread online and she became a symbol of the opposition movement. She had been a musician and teacher who joined the protests out of anger over the election results. On June 20, 2009, while observing protests from her car, she was fatally shot by a Basij militia member. Her final words were "I'm burning, I'm burning!" as she collapsed and later died. Her death drew international attention to the protests and government crackdown occurring in Iran.
