Message from Dean Kirby
Welcome to the 32nd semester of the College of Informatics, as we
begin that sixteen-week climb-out from short frigid days to the first
hints of summer.

If you opened up the NKU home page today, you read that our
Galadriel Steinman will be on NCIS Los Angeles next Monday
(January 18) playing a CEO of a tech startup. That seems just right
for an Informatics alum. Very typical of the success stories that have
been emanating from our fine college with ever greater intensity.
Many of them were featured in President Mearns' January
Convocation speech last week.

Among the events to look forward to this spring will be our huge
April 15 tenth anniversary celebration and our March 16
distinguished lecture by Sam Wang on data and the elections. As
always, we will welcome several new faculty and staff hires, including
our new executive director for the Center for Applied Informatics.
In fact, so many things going on, we need …. a newsletter! I hope
you enjoy this rebooted version of the Informatics newsletter
produced by our excellent COI Advancement staff.

And, as always, feel free to stop by my office if you’d like to have a
conversation about anything, especially if it’s my Tuesday morning
open office hours (still 8-10am). And we’ll certainly have other
occasions, structured and unstructured, to get together this year.
Happy New Year.
