Archaeologists in Savannah, Georgia used ground-penetrating radar and small test excavations to identify archaeological sites related to the 1779 Battle of Savannah. They discovered a deep ditch dug by the British in Madison Square, evidence of demolished British barracks in Lafayette Square, and a deep feature in Emmet Park that may be related to fortifications. Through this project, the researchers identified important archaeological resources related to Savannah's role in the American Revolutionary War that could be subjects for further research and protection.
