Antonio Guterres, the former Prime Minister of Portugal, is set to be chosen as the new UN Secretary General to replace Ban Ki-Moon of South Korea. The UN Security Council voted in a secret ballot to recommend Guterres' candidacy to the 193-member General Assembly for approval to serve a five-year term beginning January 1, 2017, taking over when Ki-Moon's two terms end at the close of 2016.
