New nuncio greets the faithful www.ucanews.com
Church holds special Mass to welcome Holy See's new envoy Archbishop Filipazzi.
The new apostolic nuncio to Indonesia, Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazzi, has urged all Catholics in the predominantly Muslim country to proclaim the Good News.
“We have to proclaim Jesus Christ in our daily life,” he told about 500 Catholics and ambassadors from several countries at a June 29 Holy Mass in Jakarta’s Assumption of Mary Cathedral Church.
The Holy Mass, organized to welcome the new apostolic nuncio, was concelebrated by the chairman of the bishops’ conference, Capuchin Bishop Martinus Dogma Situmorang of Padang in West Sumatra, Archbishop Ignatius Suharyo of Jakarta, and Passionist Bishop GiulioMencuccini of Sanggau in West Kalimantan.
“We have to commit to our faith inside and outside the Church,” the new apostolic nuncio asserted, saying that he will also proclaim the Good News and serve the Church as well as society in Indonesia.
“I am happy to be among you and together with you in Indonesia,” he said, adding that it was his first visit to the country.
Bishop Situmorang welcomed the new apostolic nuncio and said, “We will build the nation together. Thus, I call on all Catholics to give moral and spiritual supports to the new apostolic nuncio so that he feels comfortable in serving the Church in Indonesia.”
Archbishop Filipazzi, who speaks English, French, German, and Spanish, was born on October 8, 1963 in Melzo, Italy. He was ordained a priest in 1987 and appointed as titular archbishop of Sutrium in January.
On March 23, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him apostolic nuncio to Indonesia. He succeeded Archbishop LeopoldoGirelli who served in Indonesia for over four years.
