FCC Net Neutrality Rules

Uber targets would-be drunk drivers with latest study
Residents in major US cities are concerned about drunk driving and believe it should be a top priority for local officials. A poll found that 65% of respondents want officials to focus on reducing drunk driving. Services like Uber help address this issue by providing transportation alternatives when people have been drinking. 78% of adults say their friends are less likely to drive after drinking since Uber started operating in their cities. 57% of those polled who use transportation network services say they would drive after drinking more if Uber wasn't available. After being provided information about Uber's impact in reducing DUIs, 87% felt such services were important to public safety in their city.

Riders, drivers and vehicle owners who wish to participate in such programs are urged to contact their insurance agent or insurance company to ensure that they have the proper coverage so that they are not exposing themselves to undue risk should an accident occur. Participation in the car ride share programs may result in the vehicle insurance policy being cancelled or non-renewed and the owner may be subject to higher premiums in the future. Superintendent Franchini states, “The OSI, urges all residents who are interested in participating in car ride share programs to discuss the potential legal exposure with their insurance agent or insurance company prior to agreeing to participate to ensure that they have no personal exposure”.
