Definition of Discipleship
It is important to understand as a believer the importance of discipleship in our
lives. Christ tells us to go and make disciples of all nations, not to just tell the
whole world the Gospel. We must make sure that as we grow in our faith we
find someone to disciple us and that we find someone whom we can disciple
and pour into as well! Hopefully these definitions help make it a little clearer
and if they make it less clear for you talk to Ben, he would love to explain it
more in depth!
• Definition #1
o “Proper Biblical Discipleship is an earthly relationship that is founded
on a heavenly relationship, functioning through prayer, fellowship,
accountability, and service in order to produce love, humility, fear of
the Lord, and holiness; doing all this in order to better glorify God and
show Christ’s love while reproducing a third spiritual generation.”
• Definition #2
o “Discipleship is fellowship, a sharpening relationship, allowing two
people to get beneath the melanin. Serving one another and
carrying others’ burdens, lifting up in prayer, helping where the hurt
is. This discipleship produces love, humility, holiness, founded on
desire to glorify in obedience.”
Scripture Memory System
Scripture memory is very important for believers. God’s Word says to hide His
words in your heart so that you may not sin against Him. Scripture helps us to
fight temptations to sin in our lives and allow us to see God’s plan for us. It is not
easy, by any stretch of the imagination. It takes work to memorize scripture, but
just like anything else in life that we learn, it just takes commitment. It’s not
physics or another language, but simply God’s Word to us.
• Each week choose one of three methods to help memorize a
passage or verse of scripture.
§ Option 1: Using a sharpie or pen, write the first letter of every
word in the verse(s) on the back of your hand or on the inside
of your forearm. This will allow you to see the scripture regularly
and carry it with you wherever you goes.
§ Option 2: change the lock screen background on your phone
to that particular verse and say it to yourself or to another
person each time the phone is unlocked.
§ Option 3: write the verse on an index card every morning when
waking up, carry that index card in Your pocket all day, and
write as much as possible on the back of the card each night
before You go to sleep.
