Benson Electrical Contractors is an electrical contracting business that I own, involving
all aspects of installation and maintenance work for industrial, commercial and domestic
clients. My client base is mainly industrial and commercial with the company
specializing in office developments, public house and hotel refurbishments,
The company became NICEIC approved in 2001. In 20011 I transferred
membership to the Electrical Contractors Association and Elecsa. As both the
Inspection Engineer and the Registered Qualified Supervisor, all of the
commissioning and reporting responsibilities fall to myself.
The most staff I have employed directly is 10, but as a subcontractor I have
supervised sites for others and been responsible for in excess of 25 staff.
From 2009 about 60% of my business has come via a national Mechanical and
Electrical contractors, G Birchall. I have provided both manual and supervisory
support to them on numerous contracts all over the UK. These have included

refurbishments, lighting and LED installations on schools and Network Rail.
In 2008 I worked with a facilities management company, working nationwide at
various industrial, commercial and retail sites. A major part of my role seemed to
be as a ‘contract facilitator’. Basically I would set the job up and get it running
smoothly and then their own staff took over and I would move onto the next.
Works for my own business have included new build Eco-friendly houses and
apartments, landlords reports and upgrades, factory electrical refurbishments
and emergency lighting installations, remedial works on schools.
