During this time, I attended day releasetraining as part of my apprenticeship at Liverpool College of Printing where I was awarded the Student of the Year accolade in 1975. Having completed my apprenticeship, I managed to secure work as a compositor at the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo in 1980, where I began applying for journalism positions.
