The University of St. Thomas is investing $100,000 in the neighborhoods surrounding its St. Paul campus to help ensure stability and prevent further encroachment of student rentals. $50,000 of this fund will be used to convert a minimum of three parent-owned or student rental houses into owner-occupied single-family homes with covenants restricting their future use as undergraduate student rentals. Homeowners selected for the program by the University and a real estate agent will receive a $10,000 incentive for placing these occupancy restrictions on their properties. neighborhoods surrounding the St. Paul campus and they'll talk about safety, tranquility and
historic homes that are growing in value.
To help ensure stability in the neighborhood, and prevent more encroachment of student rentals,
the University of St. Thomas -- in conjunction with the West Summit Neighborhood Advisory
Committee (WSNAC) -- has created a $100,000 Neighborhood Stabilization Fund.
The money will be divided among three primary projects, one being:
Parent-owned or investor-owned Student housing conversions: $50,000 of the $100,000
fund will be used to convert a minimum of three parent-owned or student rental houses to
owner-occupied, single-family status with restrictive covenants placed on the homes so they
cannot be used as undergraduate student rentals when they are sold.
The University of St. Thomas along with Tanya Hietpas will select which houses will offer a
$10,000 incentive for owner occupant restrictions.
