David Horsburgh founded the Neel Bagh School in Madanapalle in 1943 with an innovative education model. Other schools were founded using similar methods, including the Vikasana School in Bangalore and Digantar Shiksha Evam Khelkud Samiti in Jaipur. By 1984, over 200,000 teachers in Tamil Nadu had been trained using Neel Bagh's activity-based learning methods. The Neel Bagh Trust was passed on to Rishi Valley School in Madanapalle.
