NCR PRESIDENT PLANS EARLY RETIREMENT
1. NCR PRESIDENT PLANS EARLY RETIREMENT
DAYTON, Ohio, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ R. Elton White, topping off a career of more than 25 years in
the computer industry, today announced his intention to retire as president of NCR early in 1994.
White assumed his role as president in September 1991 when NCR merged with AT&T to become
AT&T's core computer business.
"Elton's leadership will be greatly missed. Throughout his career, Elton has been dedicated to NCR
customers and people. He has taken the lead in developing customer-focused teams based on
extensive input from customers and associates. These teams are the building blocks of the new NCR
Customer-Focused Business Model to be implemented later this month," said NCR Chairman Jerre
Stead.
"With this new model, I feel the timing is right for me to retire from NCR and pursue other business
interests. The NCR team has my full support and confidence as they pursue this new direction," said
White, 51.
He joined the Dayton, Ohio-based NCR in 1967 as a price analyst. In 1987 he was named executive
vice president and a member of NCR's Executive Office. He was elected a member of the NCR board
in 1988 and appointed executive vice president, marketing, in 1990, responsible for the company's
marketing and sales operations worldwide.
No successor will be named. Stead will assume full responsibilities for leading the NCR team.
