The Persians allowed the peoples they conquered to continue their cultures, as they could keep their customs and religion as long as they paid their taxes and obeyed the Persian rulers. Unlike other conquerors, the Persians did not force conquered peoples to abandon their cultures.

Sargon I
Sargon I united Mesopotamia into the first empire around 2300 BCE by conquering divided city-states and compromising to incorporate aspects of different cultures, such as using both the Akkadian language and Sumerian writing systems. He was able to unite the land but his successors struggled to maintain peace, leading to civil war and the fall of Sargon I's empire around 50 years after his death.

Within 100 years, the Inca Empire expanded to include modern day Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Argentina. The Incas built a strong central government where the Sapa Inca, or Only Inca, was the all-powerful ruler. The Inca Empire also benefited from its geography across the Andes Mountains, Amazon jungle, and coastal desert, which served as natural barriers. The Incas further connected their empire with over 14,000 miles of well-built roads along the steep Andes Mountains.
