2. Recreational Value
Natural resources provided recreational activities to both locals and tourists in a given
country such as:
The seas used for diving and snorkelling, surfing and power sailing and whale-
watching and sea-bathing
Beaches for filming and parties
Climbing and hiking mountains and hills
Rainforests for ziplining, hiking, canopy walkway
These activities may be leisure, but the natural resources give its country exposure for
investors and tourists to obtain economic benefits
4. Beaches
Pirates of the
Caribbean: The Curse
of the Black Pearl
filmed at Port Royal
Jamaica
Other locations include:
St. Vincent and the
Grenadines, Dominica
and the Bahamas
7. Spiritual Value
Many religions use the environment as a sacred and spiritual
resource; offerings, worshipping etc. e.g.
Hindus planting jhandi (ceremonial) flags, prayer and
funerary sites by the sea and rivers
Christians used the sea and rivers also for water baptism and
other symbolic acts
