Chapter 3 – Education industry in a foreign country (Peru) –
identifying transferable skill
In this edition, (part 4 of 5) of the series "My unconventional career
path to Human Resources" I highlight a few key transferable skills
acquired as a result of working in education a foreign country (Peru)
that have been very valuable in my HR career.
Let’s explore…
Bilingualism: Having spent 13 years in Peru, I am bilingual which has
allowed me to impact the following areas to name a few:
·training material design and content
·teaching strategies
Pedagogical skills: being a certified teacher and in my directorial
roles in language institutes, I am able to impact the training piece of
HR in the following areas to highlight a few:
Project management: We planned and tested the design, content,
mediums, timelines, resources, etc. needed to successfully roll out
an interactive blended learning methodology.
Marketing: We designed marketing programs related to the top
three jobs graduates were landing in the different majors to
encourage them to enroll in the language program. We increased
enrollment by 10% in six months.
Culture Sensitivity / Team Building: Brought together two very
different cultures to form cohesive teams by active listening, clear
communication, openness and empathy.

skills that have helped you grow.
Part 2 of the series highlights transferable skills from the restaurant
industry.
Part 3 highlights skills from my time in the auto manufacturing
industry
