The International Society for Krishna Consciousness was founded in 1966 by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. It belongs to the Gaudiya Vaisnava tradition based on Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam. Lord Caitanya gave impetus to a massive bhakti movement in India under which hundreds of volumes on Krishna consciousness were compiled. Bhaktivinoda's son, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami, became the guru of Srila Prabhupada and instructed him to spread Krishna consciousness in the West.
