Linus Torvalds is a Finnish software engineer who began developing the Linux kernel in 1991 and released the first version in 1994. He studied at the University of Helsinki and is married with three daughters. Torvalds helped popularize open-source software by creating Git and releasing the Linux kernel as open-source, allowing others to freely use and modify the code. He has received several awards for his contributions to technology and open-source development.
