My Mystery:
A Film Project
Project Summary:
For this assignment, you will be presenting your own mystery short film. You will work in
elected groups of four (4) to complete the project.
Essential Questions:
- How can we use mystery elements to create our mystery videos?
- How can we draw in the interest of the general population?
Exhibition Venue:
The video will be shared with the class in the FLIGHT room on Thursday, April 24th. Dr.
Overgaard, Mr. Hockley, all FLIGHT parents, and FLIGHT teachers will be invited to attend the
viewing.
Project Deliverables:
1. A completed film script.
- the script must contain the key mystery elements (an investigator, a problem to solve,
and suspense) as well as at least one distraction (red herring)
- must contain all spoken words, setting, and costume descriptions
- be a minimum of two pages (double-spaced, Times New Roman size 12 font)
2.A A well-produced and edited video.
- speaking parts (from script) are memorized and performed flawlessly
- camera angles are thoughtful and represent the scene
- costumes and props are used
- 4-6 minutes in length (including Director's Cut)
2.B A reflective Director's Cut (continuing from mystery film).
- explains your group's mystery thesis (people like mysteries because _______)
- explains decisions about shots, lighting, and actions during the film
- explains how this film has been influenced by the novels you are reading (it can have a
similar problem to solve, a character with the same name, etc.)

Timeline:
Thursday, April 10th : Project Introduction / Begin Writing Script
- trailer creation using iMovie
- decision of filmto be used for the final project
- draft script writing
- homework: complete Mystery Interviews
Monday, April 14th: Revising of Script / Filming Preparation
- submit interviews to: Mystery Interviews on EdModo
- handing in draft to: Script Draft on EdModo
- peer reviewing session for the rough draft
- revise your script according to suggestions made by your peer reviewers
- submit completed scripts to: Complete Script on Edmodo
- determine where you will be filming each scene during the next class
Wednesday, April 16th: Filming
- bring in all props and costumes that you will be using
- rehearsals
- begin filming scenes
- adjust script if you change it in the film
- begin editing your film
Tuesday, April 22nd: Editing and Pre-Screening
- completion of filming
- completion of editing (filmand script revisions)
- creation of "Director's Cut"
- In-Class screening
- Film Critique (Socrative Poll)
- Submit your completely revised script to Edmodoassignment: Final Script
- Embed your video intoa Blog Post
Thursday, April 24th: Official Exhibition with special guests.
