Civilization:
 Over 5000 years ago,
when many cultures were only nomadic forest dwellers Indians established
Mohenjo-Daro / Harappan cities in Sindhu Valley (Indus Valley Civilization)
Religion:
 Buddhism - was founded in India in 500 B.C.
 Jainism - was founded in India in 600 B.C.
 Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism & Sikhism - The four religions born in India
are followed by 25% of the world's population
 India has Largest Muslim Population compared to any other country in the
world
 Jews and Christians - have lived continuously In India since 200 B.C. and 52
A.D. respectively .
Language:
 The ancient Language of India - “Sanskrit” is origin of many languages of
India and Europe.
 It is the most Phonetic & Logical Language and has been found as most
suitable for computers
Literature
 The most ancient epic is “Ramayana”
 The another epic is “Mahabharat” which is the largest in world literature
having 1,00,000 Shlokas
“ Shri-mad-bhagwad-GEETA”
GEETA is one of the most revered scripture of Hindus.
It is part of one chapter of epic “Mahabharat”
Education:
 The world's first university was
established in Taksh-shila in 700
BC.
 More than 10,500 students from all
over the world studied more than
60 subjects.
 The University of Nalanda was built
in the 4th century.
 It was one of the greatest
achievements of ancient India In
the field of education
Medicines:
 Indian “Ayurved” is the earliest school of medicine known to mankind.
 The father of Medicine, “Charak” consolidated Ayurved 2500 years ago
called “Charak Sanhita”
 “Sushrut” regarded as the Father of Surgery, conducted complicated
surgeries like cataract, artificial limbs, cesareans, fractures, urinary stones,
plastic surgery and brain surgeries over 2600 years ago
Mathematics:
 The ‘Decimal System' and the ‘Place Value System' were developed in India
before Ist century B.C. by Arya Bhatt.
 The value of pi “π“ was first calculated by the Indian Mathematician
“Budhayana”
 He explained the concept of what is known as the Pythagorean Theorem.
 He discovered this in the 6th century, long before the European
mathematicians.
 Algebra & Trigonometry also originated in India.
 Quadratic Equations were used by Sridhar Acharya in the 11th century.
 The largest numbers the Greeks and the Romans used were 106 .
 Where as Hindus used numbers as big as 1053 with specific names as early
as 5000 B.C. Even today, the largest used number is Terra: 1012

 India is the 2nd most populated country in the world
 India is the 4th largest economy in the world.
 India is the largest democracy in the world.
