Qlik is an industry leader across its solution stack, both on the Data Integration side of things with Qlik Replicate (real-time CDC) and Qlik Compose (data warehouse and data lake automation), and on the Analytics side with Qlik Sense. These two “sides” of Qlik are coming together more frequently these days as the need for “always fresh” data increases across organizations.
When real-time streaming applications are the topic du jour, those companies are looking to Apache Kafka to provide the architectural backbone those applications require. Those same companies turn to Qlik Replicate to put the data from their enterprise database systems into motion at scale, whether that data resides in “legacy” mainframe databases; traditional relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, or SQL Server; or applications such as SAP and SalesForce.
In this session we will look in depth at how Qlik Replicate can be used to continuously stream changes from a source database into Apache Kafka. From there, we will explore how a purpose-built consumer can be used to provide the bridge between Apache Kafka and an analytics application such as Qlik Sense.

The requirements of many modern data platforms develop along two directions: (1) Low latency, i.e. the shift from batch-oriented to event-driven processes, which facilitate much more timely and reactive insights; and (2) complex analytics, i.e. the ability to efficiently apply analytic functions or models to the incoming data streams. However, many companies don't start from scratch, and already have well-established data infrastructure and processes with various degrees of affinity and compatibility to these novel paradigms. Based on extensive experience of building data platforms with customers, we describe in this talk some key challenges and aspects of introducing streaming-based approaches in real-world productive environments. These include e.g. integrating existing batch-oriented data sources and APIs, checking consistency when using event sourcing to exchange data, and building realtime analytical visualizations. For all cases, architectural options are discussed, and the final solution is explained, including technologies like Apache Nifi, Airflow, Phoenix, Druid and the Confluent Platform. We close the talk by describing non-technical aspects like building up an event-driven mindset among analysts.

In an industry that’s already defined, Extreme Network’s recent announcement of The Automated Campus is a significant advance in networking. For the first time, all the essential technologies, products, procedures and support are gathered together and integrated. All too often, the piecemeal/piecewise growth strategy, typically applied in network evolutions, results in too many tools, procedures, and techniques. The patchwork quilt approach precludes fast responsiveness, optimal operations staff productivity, and sacrifices the accuracy and efficiency required to keep end-users productive as well.
The most important opportunity to improve efficiency for governments today is in boosting both the productivity of end-users and network operators. The automated campus must address the productivity of network planners and network operations managers and staff. The often-significant number of elements required in an installation can demand significant staff time and can, consequentially, have an adverse impact on operating expenses (OpEx). While It is possible to build traditional networks that, when running correctly and optimally get the job done, they often embody such high operating expenses that cost becomes the overriding factor controlling the evolution of the campus network. The Automated Campus will allow XYZ Account to address all these issues and concerns. A key goal must be for XYZ Account to reduce the number of “moving parts” required to build and operate any campus and introduce a level of simplicity and automation that will address your future.
Extreme’s strategy for Campus Automation begins with re-thinking the way networks are designed, deployed and managed. Extreme’s Fabric-based networks enable faster configuration and troubleshooting; As a result, there is less opportunity for misconfiguration. Several automation solutions designed to enhance security often force network managers to accept complexity and degraded resilience to secure the network to meet local policies. Should a breach occur, containment to that segment protects even more sensitive parts of the network, resulting in a true dead-end for the hacker. With Extreme’s Automated Campus services can easily be defined and provisioned on-the-fly without disruption. Network operators specify what services are allowed or prohibited across the network.
