This document analyzes video game audio and its potential application in a museum environment. It discusses sound design in video games and how audio is used to create immersion. It then examines factors influencing museum visitors and how immersion can be achieved in a museum setting. The document analyzes audio from 8 video games and presents the results of a study where museum visitors experienced video game audio tracks and completed a questionnaire about their perceptions. The study found that video game audio could enhance immersion in a museum when designed appropriately for the setting.
Social Media Metrics for the Cultural Heritage SectorHU-Crossmedialab
The document discusses the development of a prototype called the "Social Media Museum Monitor" to collect and visualize social media metrics for cultural heritage institutions. It was a 6-month project involving one programmer working 12 hours per week. The tool aims to track the current and historic social media activities of Dutch museums, measure their impact on the public, and show how museums relate to each other online. The document concludes with a demonstration of the prototype, lessons learned, and example results.
This document discusses gamification and social media in museum exhibits. It contains quotes about the addition of computers and social media to exhibits. One quote suggests that simply adding these technologies to a boring exhibit does not improve the experience. The document also references a game called "Spel" that is used to help organizations determine their media strategies. It mentions an event called "MuseumBattle 2011" and provides contact information for Harry van Vliet.
This document provides context and motivation for a thesis that will analyze narrative structure in 3D crossmedia exhibitions. It discusses how museums have evolved to incorporate new media like audio tours to tell stories. The research aims to understand the underlying grammar of how museums combine old and new media into crossmedia narratives. Case studies of three museum exhibitions will be analyzed using Bruner's narrative theory to develop a model of narrativity in crossmedia spaces.
This document summarizes research on Flickr's Commons platform, which allows cultural institutions to share photos. The researcher extracted a large dataset from The Commons to better understand how the community interacts with institutional collections. Key findings include:
1) Over 167,000 community members have interacted with photos since 2008, however user-generated content is minimal and institutions rarely engage with the 51 million member community.
2) Most user tags are descriptive rather than emotional. Less than 1% of tags contained emotional content for the Library of Congress collection.
3) While institutions report increased reach by joining The Commons, the level of engagement from the community is generally low based on available statistics from participating organizations.
Social Media Metrics for the Cultural Heritage sectorHU-Crossmedialab
1. The document discusses the development of a prototype social media monitor to provide Dutch museums better insight into the effects of their social media usage.
2. The monitor collects publicly available data from Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr for Dutch museums registered in the Netherlands Museum Register.
3. Developing their own custom monitor allows the researchers to experiment and customize the tool to better understand social media metrics for the cultural heritage sector, though it is acknowledged the monitor is only a prototype.

In 2017, there were 181 food festivals in the Netherlands, providing 276 total festival editions. Nearly half of editions came from 29 festivals with multiple editions. Most festivals (80%) return annually. The season is concentrated from May to September, and most editions took place in Zuid-Holland and Noord-Holland. The typical food festival is free, outdoors, and lasts multiple days in the summer. 49 new festivals launched in 2017, mainly in the core months and provinces.
The Dutch Festival Landscape 2017: Film FestivalsHarry van Vliet
A wide range of data is presented to give insights in how the Dutch film festival landscape in 2017 looked like. The data is presented in four sections: a section with general statistics on the size and characteristics of the film festival landscape; a section with data on the programming at film festivals; a section on the social media presence and usage by film festivals; and finally, a comparison is made between the data of the 2016 film festival season and the 2017 film festival season, to spot trends and developments.

The document provides an overview of the festival landscape in the Netherlands based on data from the Festival Atlas project in 2015. It analyzes the number and types of music festivals by month, region, whether they are paid or free, and the country of origin of performing bands. Over 900 festivals were mapped. Social media use is also examined based on Facebook likes, Twitter followers, and YouTube views for paid versus free festivals, one-day versus multi-day events, and new versus established festivals. The team behind the Atlas is introduced and future plans are outlined to continue expanding the data collection and analysis.

(Mintz, 1998)
38. “Adding social media to a boring festival,

(Van Vliet, 2012)

• Lay-out: plaatsing van bankjes, plantenbakken, lampen
beinvloedt sociale gedragingen en veiligheidsgevoel
Museumscapes / 28 November 2014
