A  multi-genre research essay  is a collection of pieces written in a variety of genres, informed by your research on a particular subject that presents one or more perspectives on a research question.  A primary goal is to “experiment” with genres or “learning artifacts” to represent key learnings and understandings..  Alternate genres allow students’ creativity to  shine while still informing the audience of their research findings. What Is a Multigenre Research Paper?
Why Multigenre? Students make conscious decisions about the genres they choose. Students explain why they chose a particular genre. Students incorporate research findings and information in a creative way.
Qualities of a Multigenre Research Paper Helps a researcher look at a topic from many different angles/lenses. Includes traditional writing elements in addition to alternative genres.
Benefits of a Multigenre Paper Students are engaged in metacognition The multigenre paper easily allows for differentiation for all learners. Multiple literacies are valued.
Multigenre Research and Information Literacy Work with your librarian to develop a research pathfinder to help your students access information resources. Your librarian can incorporate mini-lessons about search strategies, information source evaluation, and ethical use of information. Encourage students to use traditional and nontraditional authoritative sources of information.
Tips for Success Provide sufficient scaffolding and organization of the research task. Provide ample time for inquiry and exploration. Provide concrete examples of alternate genres to help students visualize possibilities. Incorporate frequent checkpoints to help students stay on track.

The Repetend Repetend is something added to your multigenre web project that repeats or continues.  The purpose of repetend is to create unity among the various genre pieces and to give the writer an editorial voice that the reader can easily relate to.
