2. For clarity’s sake:
• STOP thinking about MU in terms of Stage
• START thinking about MU in terms of Year + Stage
3. Providers:
• Attest on a yearly basis:
• What year is it?
• What stage am I doing this year?
• What are the measures/objectives specific to my
Year + Stage!
• What EHRs can I use to attest?
4. EHR Technology
• 2011 Certified version!
• Providers used this to attest in 2011, 2012, 2013,
and maybe 2014
• 2014 Certified version!
• Providers will use this to attest in 2015 & 2016,
and maybe 2014
5. EHR Technology
• STOP thinking about “Stage 2 certified” technology
• START thinking about “2014 certified” technology
• Certified for both 2014 Stage 1 and 2014 Stage 2
6. 2013 Stage 1 ≠ 2014 Stage 1 ≠ 2014 Stage 2
Navigating Cancer can help clinics do any of the above
7. The Ruling
Providers have 3 options for attesting in 2014:!
• Use 2011-certified technology to repeat 2013 Stage 1
• Use 2014-certified technology to do 2014 (Stage 1 or 2)
• Use a mix of 2011 and 2014 technology to do one of:
• 2013 Stage 1
• 2014 Stage 1
• 2014 Stage 2
9. As of right now, have you upgraded
to a 2014-certified EMR?
10. NO?
We recommend:!
1. For attestation in 2014, re-do 2013 (i.e. use your current
technology to attest for 2013 Stage 1 measures)
2. Start getting ready for 2015:
• Capture emails & drive portal registrations
• Turn on Secure Messaging (contact us if you haven’t already)
• Get on your EMR’s upgrade schedule
11. YES?
1. Contact us ASAP if you haven’t already
2. Even though both NC and your EMR are 2014-certified, we
need to make sure ALL required MU 2014 PHR data is
flowing from your EMR into your portal
• This applies to both 2014 Stage 1 and 2014 Stage 2
• This directly impacts Timely Access, View/Download/
Transmit, and Clinical Summaries
3. For attestation, consider doing 2013 Stage 1 or 2014 Stage
1 unless you’re very confident in meeting Stage 2 measures
12. Remember
• The ruling DOES allow a Provider to mix & match technologies:
• Use a 2011-certified EMR for some measures
• Use a 2014-certified EMR (like Navigating Cancer) for other measures
• The ruling DOES NOT allow a Provider to mix & match measures… they
must:
• Do ALL measures from 2013 Stage 1, 2014 Stage 1, or 2014 Stage 2
• 2015 is coming soon!
• Providers must use ONLY 2014-certified EMRs
• Attestation period is 365 days (not 90 days like in 2014)
