Mission to the Cities is the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s 5-year emphasis on sharing Jesus’ love and the hope of His soon return with people in some of world’s largest cities.
“What exactly is the Mission to the Cities concept though??” [read the slide]
The TED chose London & the BUC chose Dublin and I’m delighted to tell you that after applying to the NEC…
…Birmingham has been chosen. The NEC have agreed to support this city. A steering committee have been appointed. Brethren it is time to get exited.
“How will this work with my church and the conference?”
Explain that this is a programme where the conference works, the advisory works, the church works and you work. And that all the work overlaps.
The steering committee and the Advisory have been meeting this past year and have already been preparing and engaging people from around Birmingham. It is an ongoing prograrmme and plans will continue to develop as we go on, so if you have some great ideas, we (the steering committee) would love to hear. I will speak to you in just a moment on how you can get involved. For now, we are nearing our launch, and over the next few weeks, all churches in Birmingham will have received this presentation.
22 Oct Heritage day and 29 Oct city wide launch. 2017 Oct marks 500 yrs of the reformation. 2018 our large scale evangelistic event.
For now I’m going to focus on our launch in 2016 so you know what to do to be ready for the launch
On the 22nd October 1844 we saw the great disappointment take place. This year, on 22nd October it will mark the beginning of our MTTC programme here in Birmingham. This will be done at your local church and the following week (29th) we will meet together for a city-wide launch at the Winson Green SDA church.
Why I’m extra excited about the MTTC concept is that It’s something the church is simply asking you to do. Rather it’s about supporting you to discover what God wants you to do to reach out to your friends and then equipping you to do that. For this reason we really need you all on board. It is time to get excited about what God can achieve here in Birmingham.

So what can you do? We’re asking this question on all levels. What can you do as individuals? As a church? As an area? A lack of communication is often the reason why things don’t work, and we’re determined for that not to be the case with us. Lets get this conversation going between us and you. At this church __________ has been chosen as an ambassador, to solicit your ideas and insights. Now is the time to really get excited about what God can do through us all in Birmingham.
There 3 things we ARE asking you to focus on. The first is to PRAY. We are asking everyone everywhere to pray every day. Pray for God’s blessing. For His direction. Pray for your neighbours, for how to reach your friends. For the church, It’s mission. Brethren we NEED to pray. To this end, there will be a day of prayer at Smethwick SDA church, 3rd Sept.
The 2nd thing we ask is that you engage yourself in the program fully. This is about what God can do through you if you give Him your all. Engaging isn’t merely turning up to the events the church puts on. It’s more about making the most of the opportunity we have. What can YOU bring that will REALLY make the difference God is looking for in Birmingham.
Thirdly this is about involvement. Jesus was inclusive and its because of His openness to involve us, why we are even in His Kingdom today. Let us all take the responsibility to involve each other in reaching this city. Similarly, some of you may know people who used to attend, and you would like to see them rejoin. What can your church do to involve them. Please have this conversation with your ambassador.

So I'm just going to focus on a few particular so that you are ready for the launch. Please get your pens ready because we don’t want you to miss this.
So you're here right now. All churches will be hearing this message over these next few weeks
throughout September and October your church will be given a resource pack to run interactive workshops designed to engage you in discussion ideas forming and plan making. There will also be a custom made Sabbath School lesson written to prepare the churches for MTTC.
On the 22nd October we have our heritage day which will be here at your church, marking the beginning of a years worth of activity leading up to our big reformation event next year 2017,
…and the 29th October is our city-wide launch at Winson Green where the all the Adventists in Birmingham will unite. A day where we can unveil our plans, and together with God’ strength, we…
…CAN reach this city.
I will leave you with this final Bible verse, ‘Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.’
