Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

11. Waarom leren over Database Systemen?
Databasesystemen (Ned: “gegevensbanken”)
verwerken en organiseren (grote)
hoeveelheden gegevens
Informatiekunde: waar/hoe is de informatie?
Databasegebruik in allerlei functies:
Marketing manager: klantgegevens
Bedrijfsjurist: eerdere vonnissen, precedenten
…

12. Introductie database systemen
Database: een georganiseerde verzameling
gegevens
Database management system (DBMS):
Database administrator (DBA): een IT
professional die de databases van een
organisatie beheert en onderhoudt

13. Data Management

activiteit beschrijven

39. Nieuwe ontwikkelingen: NoSQL
http://www.rackspacecloud.com/blog/2009/11/09/nosql-ecosystem/
The “NoSQL” term was actually coined Last.fm wanted to
organize
an event to discuss open source distributed databases. The
name and concept both caught on.
NoSQL is
making people aware that there are other options out there.
But we’re not anti-relational-database for when that really is
the best tool for the job; it’s “Not Only SQL,” rather than “No
SQL at all.”
Three axes along which to think about the many database
options:
1. scalability,
2. data and query model, and
3. persistence design.

VRAAG : Wat is Informatie? <Informatie> Tot slot: <Barcode> VRAAG: Data of Informatie?
Enterprise = meestomvattend. Meestal geintegreerd in 1 product: SAP.
Uitleg (start bij bits kolom IN – binair getal 01101010): bytes kolom, vrnl, als in een binair getal de eerste bit aan staat (dus op 1) dan betekent dat 2^0 oftewel 1. Zo ook voor 2^1 voor het 2e binaire getal = 2^1 = 2, etc, t/m 2^7 = 128. Dus, als je het binaire getal 01101010 hebt, en we gaan vlnr, dan is de 8e bit uit maar de 7e staat AAN, tel dus 2^6 = 64 bij de decimale uitkomst op. Het 6e bit staat ook AAN, dus tel vervolgens 2^5 = 32 bij 64 op = 96. Etc. Plus 2^3 = 8, en 2^1 = 2. Dus 106. ?? 57 in binair getalssysteem? 2^7|128 in 57? Nee 2^6|64 in 57? Nee 2^5|32 in 57? => 57-32=25 2^4|16 in 25? => 25-16=9 2^3|8 in 9? => 9-8=1 2^4|4 in 1? Nee 2^1|2 in 1? Nee 2^0|1 in 1? => 1-1=0 >> 00111001.

VRAAG : Voorbeeld? VRAAG : Nog andere db types? Hierarchisch (Windows Register), Object (Jasmine), Gedistribueerd (zie multi-user db) A navigational database is a type of database characterized by the fact that objects (or records) in it are found primarily by following references from other objects.
>> Backup beleid
VRAAG : Nu, Open source databases zoals MySQL?
There are two things to look for in a distributed database: 1) support for multiple datacenters and 2) the ability to add new machines to a live cluster transparently to your applications. The columnfamily model shared by Cassandra and HBase is inspired by the one described by Google’s Bigtable paper , section 2. (Cassandra drops historical versions, and adds supercolumns .) In both systems, you have rows and columns like you are used to seeing, but the rows are sparse : each row can have as many or as few columns as desired, and columns do not need to be defined ahead of time. The fundamental problem is that relational databases cannot handle many modern workloads. There are three specific problem areas: scaling out to data sets like Digg’s ( 3 TB for green badges ) or Facebook’s ( 50 TB for inbox search ) or eBay’s ( 2 PB overall ), per-server performance , and rigid schema design . The Cassandra project was started by Facebook in 2007 to scale their internal applications, particularly Inbox Search. Earlier this year, they released it to the Apache incubator where other people from the community could become involved and start contributing. This allowed the project to move forward in a direction that is more general to the public than just to Facebook’s needs.
CouchDB ( Couch is an acronym for cluster of unreliable commodity hardware ) Apache CouchDB , commonly referred to as CouchDB , is an open source document-oriented database written mostly in theErlang programming language. It is part of the NoSQL group of data stores and is designed for local replication and to scale horizontally across a wide range of devices. CouchDB is supported by commercial enterprises Couchbase and Cloudant. Storing status_ids in 64bit unsigned integers means the theoretical maximum number of tweets is 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 or, as Programmable web point out, 2.7 billion tweets for every person on the planet.
