Lasers work by stimulating emission of radiation from a gain medium using a process called stimulated emission. They contain an energy source that causes light to beam in a coherent way. Lasers have many applications in medicine like eye treatments and surgery, technology such as Blu-ray and printers, industrial uses for cutting and welding, and government and science purposes including military defense and research microscopy.
