Mother Teresa was an Albanian-Indian Catholic nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, India in 1950 to help the poor and homeless. She won numerous awards including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and Bharat Ratna in 1980 for her humanitarian work. The Missionaries of Charity runs orphanages, provides food and shelter to the homeless, operates health clinics for the poor, and educates children in poor communities.
