AdolfDassler (Adidas)
Adolf "Adi" Dassler (3 November 1900 โ 6 September
1978) was a German cobbler, inventor and entrepreneur
who founded the German sportswear company Adidas. He
was also the younger brother of Rudolf Dassler, founder
of Puma. Dassler was an innovator in athletic shoe design
and one of the early promoters who obtained
endorsements from athletes to drive sale of his products.
As a result of his concepts, Adi Dassler built the largest
manufacturer of sportswear and equipment. At the time of
his death, Adidas had 17 factories and annual sales of one
billion marks. Dassler was married to Kรคthe until his death
from heart failure in 1978. They had 5 children. In 1973,
their son Horst Dassler founded Arena, a producer of
swimming equipment. Kรคthe Dassler died on 31 December
1984.

WhataretheFailuresheEncountered Before Becoming
Successful?Adolf Dassler was initially categorized as being a
โLesser Offenderโ and the company was put under the supervision
of a trustee. This made it very difficult for Adolf to re-start his
sports shoe business. Then, through a process of appeal he was
able to show that he had never been an active supporter of the
party. He leaned heavily on testimony from respected residents of
Herzogenaurach, employees he had helped, and even a Jewish
friend who he had taken in and protected from the Nazis. His
degree of party affiliation was eventually reclassified to the
category of โFollowerโ and he was able to resume control of the
company as an owner once again.
The stress of the war, and the years immediately afterwards
created irreparable division between Adolf and Rudolf Dassler.
They officially split up their company in 1948.
They divided the firmโs assets and, following this, became
business rivals. Rudolf formed his own sports shoe company
which eventually became known as Puma. The global
headquarters of both adidas and Puma are still based in the town
of Herzogenaurach.

WhataretheFailuresheEncountered Before BecomingSuccessful?
He also mentioned their biggest challenge was to create
awareness on the fundersโ end since most people think that
investing in agriculture is risky with a low chance of profit.
On another note, access to finance has always been a major
problem for farmers in countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia and
Myanmar. No matter how much the NGOs are supporting or the
government is subsidising, access to finance still holds a huge gap
between demand and supply, he said.
โIn the governmentโs aim to build Digital Bangladesh, agriculture
has not been given the proper focus, which could have addressed
the needs and potential of the massive sector. We donโt have a
storage facility and due to that, farmers have to sell their goods
instantly and incur losses every day,โ Fahad added.
