Editor's Notes

  • #3 Robert’s Photo
  • #4 Why does this matter Colleagues locate you in a community that allows for navigation of the institution and professional identity and provides distinct and necessary energy and power They call you to something greater than yourself. Provide a space for flourishing and development.
  • #5 Location/Place A sense of place within the institution. A sense of place professionally, pedagogically, philosophically. The commonly used phrase It’s what you do it’s who you do it with My photo.
  • #6 Community Ideological This is your tribe. That shared and conflicting ideologies spark dialogue and growth. https://flic.kr/p/ehxgeb
  • #7 Navigation Direction, purpose Development/processing of professional and pedagogical abilities/ideas. Navigation of institutional politics.
  • #8 Energy/Power This is where calling and expecting more of one another to build and develop the group for the better Peer Review.
  • #9 Common Story An evening that was deliberately informal but was a first on campus for seeking to engage race and culture meaningfully on campus Reflected the diversity of experience and backgrounds
  • #10 http://timemanagementninja.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/End-of-the-Road.jpg Everything Ends so then what happens. How does this get processed?
  • #11 Absence of community resulting from a loss of a sense of place. which no longer exists becomes or at least feels like isolation. https://cdn.theatlantic.com/assets/media/img/photo/2016/05/2016-national-geographic-travel-pho-1/n22_13023498245100/main_1200.jpg?1464105313
  • #12 An absence of being able to navigate institutional politics and upheavals becomes a sense of drifting, no clear markers or direction. Missing a sense of collective movement. https://www.flickr.com/photos/christinagallivan/8660375888/in/photolist-echG2E-oXj88x-eBeDZB-eRqXY-oXj7KP-62u8g-drPcKR-oXj7pD-61BnhH-dGjB3s-Qhqva-82TmMu-cQjhUA-xzyw7-ryoDAw-2sXs-p4oGJT-5cxxKK-6ds7st-tckUbw-2rfacM-4wrkN-9eMfDb-ctzjLd-e3kJUG-5wTLAr-8Fju4B-9PuXTa-6ds8dc-6dwfz3-7AsBVd-pLPYX8-aE4duD-ateuKP-9aq2yY-4C7UVr-CcqhGz-7Atoa6-8N1y3B-gyFxJz-7AwCAD-aE8cN3-8UWSj7-78QDxs-d8txM-6ToxF7-8UTNKB-am6jUM-A58bd-eRr1J
  • #13 Power and energy are lost. Why try anything else because eventually everything ends. People leave. It is here that decisions have to be made.
  • #14 I decided that I was just going to work. A lot of work. In addition to my library duties I taught two classes and was taking a doctoral level class with additional committee/planning work. The problem with this is that obviously does not last. Work only fills so many holes. http://sd.keepcalm-o-matic.co.uk/i/keep-calm-and-keep-working-32.png
  • #15 Failing to process through collegial departure creates a sense of isolation and loneliness. Additionally you begin to feel like a holdout. Some sort of special snowflake which brings an unhealthy and generally unwanted attitude. https://cdn.theatlantic.com/assets/media/img/photo/2016/05/guangfuli/g16_RTX2CVUV/main_1200.jpg?1462470506
  • #16 Grief is a legitimate emotion. People have not died but they are no longer present with you. Based on how their presence defined how you operated both in/outside of work the absence of that presence should be mourned. https://flic.kr/p/oN8G4Q
  • #17 Grief takes time. In spades. Time to realize that grief is a thing. Time to grieve. Time to process through the other parts of grief (anger, denial, etc.) https://flic.kr/p/4w9qaW
  • #18 The desire to rebuild without downplaying the legitimacy of loss. https://flic.kr/p/7sbGAT
  • #19 What to do you do next? That processing through collegial departure is a process. Continue where you are at and build (determination) Take another path? To rebuild at another location entirely https://flic.kr/p/bEWkcB
  • #20 A sense of letting go. A sense of remembrance/memorial which does not minimize the importance of the former colleagues but also offers opportunity to build new bridges. When ready. http://www.zacktravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Sky-lantern-taiwan-1.jpg
  • #21  Because at the end, what was made done together was and is significant. It has formed part of who you are and who you are going to be. For that thankful for the time together. Darryl Meekin’s photo.
