LESSON #1: Know the real playing field.

Success in handling
  money requires
 understanding the
field you’re playing
 on, which likely is
     not level or
      balanced.
Lesson #2:
You Must Be Prepared to Take Losses on the “Road,”
if You are to Ultimately Win.
Traveling around the Monopoly teaches you that adversity
not only lurks, it happens. The board is a vehicle that
carries you from decision point to decision point. If you
make the most of each choice encountered, you improve
the odds of winning the game.
Lesson #3:
Before you can make money, you have to steadily
think about, and apply yourself, to making money.

In other words, you can’t succeed by assuming you can
manage your nest egg when the whim strikes. You need
to commit yourself to making intelligent decisions daily,
through careful study and application of
                          sound financial principles.
Lesson #4:
         Think of your Personal Finances
as if You were a Business

Like any business, you have assets and debt.
In the game, your assets consist of CASH, DEEDS and
BUILDINGS. Your liabilities will be MORTGAGES. The
difference is your NET WORTH. As long as your net worth
is positive, you are in the game.
If your net worth goes “in the red”
                  you go bankrupt! Good-bye.
Lesson #5:
Know the Rules of the Game
      You’re Playing.

By the time the fool has
                 learned the game, the
                players have dispersed.

                     – African Proverb–
Your Game Persona
The starting point of “who you are”
           is your token.
The Cat’s Arrival
The Cat is the game’s newest Token
(added in early 2013 to replace the dear, departed iron).
Cats are shrewd, cool and seldom shy.
They prefer keep a cash reserve for a “rainy day.”
              Cats are not easily intimidated.
Cats are willing to play when the mood strikes and they
           consider themselves superstitious.
Surveys suggest the Cat will be very popular, especially
                  among female players.
The Racecar’s Rush
Nearly one out of four players prefers the Racecar as their favorite token.
                             It is clearly #1.
The Racecar is perceived as the most appropriate icon to be traveling
around the game’s streets. “Racecars” tend to be outgoing, friendly, and
versatile- They adapt well and want to be liked.
They believe they are seen as fun and intelligent.
                       Racecars tend to be males.
THE BATTLESHIP
The Battleship is preferred by one out of ten Monopoly players.
                   It symbolizes rugged determinism.
Battleships tend to be more cutthroat than other players, and have a bit of
artistic flair. They are eager to play to win.
Battleships like to rely on math to calculate the merits of any investment.
They believe others see them as intelligence and formidable.
More than any token, Battleships tend to calculate moves in their heads,
then jump to the space landed upon. Battleships are mostly males.
THE CANNON
One player out of twenty prefers the Iron. The Iron symbolizes
                          toughness and agility.
Irons tend to be pluggers who persist against long odds,
                            and often prevail.
                     They respond well to adversity.
Irons play for fun, and not too frequently. They are keen observers; little
                     goes unnoticed in their games.
Irons are almost evenly divided between male and female players.
THE MONEYBAG
This token was included from 1999 to 2008.
One out of twelve players prefers the Moneybag.
The Moneybag represents the fun side of greed and wealth.
Moneybags want to be very rich in real life.
They believe others see them as fun and intelligent
Moneybag players tend to be young (18 or under).
Males and females equally prefer this token.
THE SCOTTY
Nearly one in five players prefer the Scotty, making it the
                    second most favored token.
Scotties consider themselves trustworthy, loyal, and keen to please.
But they are also mentally agile and keen to win.
Scotties believe others see them as fun loving, while they regard
themselves as mild risk takers and careful players.
Scotties are always eager to play and are not superstitious.
More female players are Scotties than males.
THE SHOE
Shoes are discriminating players; only one out of sixteen
                      prefers the Shoe token.
Shoes are generous, but can be easily riled. They have long memories
if not dealt with honorably (watch out!).
Shoes enjoy playing often and believe others see
them as fun to play with.
More females are Shoes than males.
THE THIMBLE
One player out of twenty prefers the Thimble token.
Thimbles consider themselves practical, sensitive, and many are introverts.
                          They are also creative.
They are more possessive about their favorite token than any other.
Thimbles play strategically and calculate the odds.
They tend to keep track of each card played. They may play slow.
They feel others lack a clear impression of them.
                  Thimbles are mainly female players.
THE TOP HAT
One out of seven players is a Top Hat (the third most popular token).
The Top Hat has a sense of elegance even if it doesn’t show. Top Hats
don’t mind drawing attention or being controversial. They might be
introverted in real life, but in the game, they show off their mojo.
Top Hats accept luck as inevitable. They are a little superstitious.
Top Hats are organizers and try to get a game going often.
Top Hats are mainly male players.
THE HORSE
Even though the Horse is no longer included in the basic Monopoly
game, it remains the favorite of one player out of fourteen.
The Horse is a lover of nature, and down to earth humor. It plays
fast and furious and loves adventure.
They feel others see them as intelligent and they regard themselves
as mentally very competent and agile.
The Horse is equally preferred my men and women.
THE WHEELBARROW
Only 3% of Monopoly players prefer the Wheelbarrow.
The Wheelbarrows are the game’s “heavy lifters.”
They expect a tough go and fierce competition. They have no preference for
a board side; any group is fine. They “lift” what comes their way,
good or bad. They feel luck dominates the game.
More Wheelbarrows play reactively than any other token,
and they love to play, often organizing games.
                  Most Wheelbarrows are male players.
