homework. While you're reading, try using the Think Aloud reading
strategy we did in class to help you better understand the text.

Strategy
While we read together, share your
thoughts out loud
I'll model it. You'll hear me share my thought processes out
loud after reading a passage. Then you'll try in your breakout
rooms. This think aloud strategy helps you figure out meaning
when you have trouble understanding a passage.

Constructed Response Reminders
Topic Sentence (TS): Restate AND answer the prompt.
Concrete Detail #1 (CD1): Cite textual evidence to support your claim. Be sure to include a
quotation lead-in/transition. Don't just drop in your evidence. For example, According to the
article, "________" (par. 2).
Commentary A (CMa): Provides analysis of CD1. Explains the importance/significance of the
included evidence but DOES NOT summarize/restate the evidence.
Commentary B (CMb): Similar to CMa, CMb provides additional analysis, context, and/or
significance of the evidence.
Concrete Detail #2 (CD2): Your second piece of textual evidence that supports your claim.
CMa: Apply Sentence 3 instructions to CD2
CMb: Apply Sentence 4 instructions to CD2
Concluding Sentence (CS): Closing sentence that sums up the TS and summarizes the paragraph.

be completed before the end of the period and will be entered into
