COMPLETIONSCOMPLETIONS
Virtual Manager (VM) Completions constitute a multi-discipline
web-based solution that provides you with a complete interactive
picture from a single source. The MODS VM Completion module
can be utilized as a traditional 2D system completions database
or it can be linked to your existing 3D design model to help you
achieve greater efficiency, whereby, by linking to the model, we
provide a unique 4D Completions and Commissioning Management
System (CCMS) solution. Here, the processes are completely
integrated with the 3D model database to deliver a comprehensive
inspection, testing, commissioning and preservation programme
that is at the same time transparent, accountable, affordable
and has high visibility.

3. COMPLETIONSfeatures and functionality
solution
The average project generates a high volume of inspection and commissioning verification documents,
which can cause an administrative burden and lead to increased costs and data that is difficult to track and
audit. By interacting directly with the model graphics, naming protocols and attributed data in the 3D
design model database and other technical design information, MODS delivers a 4D* solution that reduces
the administrative burden and at the same time provides maximum transparency and accountability
together with high visibility.
*4D is the concept of taking the 3D models – i.e. the designs and data – and incorporating a time element to ensure that
the design intent can be tracked and logged in real time using handheld devices

4. 3D model interface
VM configures the 3D design model to simplify the navigation and search processes and to
make it available to all users through a web solution. There are many ways to orientate the user
around the virtual plant; e.g. by using the navigation tools, by a simple search for a tag or item
number or by scanning the barcode on the check sheet, performance record or job card. When
the item is presented, it will be highlighted to clearly show the item in its location and context.
Pausing the cursor over the item will also reveal all the technical data attributed to that
particular model item
Design breakdown structure
The design model is structured and named by system, lines, tags, primary and secondary steel,
and by all the other key items that make up the design. Behind the 3D geometry is the
attributed data, which is built up from the design specification catalogues. This intelligent
breakdown structure enables MODS to develop a unique reference data file for each item, which
is then used to filter information. Where there is no attributed data reference in the master
database, VM creates a reference to capture the whole design data in a single source.
Sub- and part-system grouping
Group reference files are created for tasks that represent multiple items, such as pipe test
parameters, instrument loops, electrical circuits and subsystems or commissioning packages.
This is a simple process of defining the model item references required for the task and creating
a group reference data set; the data sets remain flexible and can be revised by removing or
inserting new items. To facilitate subsystems for habitation or other unique activities, such as
performance testing equipment, the references in a group data set can be used more than once
with a link back to individual items for the completion acceptance status.
Master database population
To populate the master database, a standard matrix is established
that cross-references the completions and commissioning
reference files with the appropriate inspection check sheets and
commissioning performance records. VM uses this information to
attach the records to the reference data files to establish the master
database. Once the matrix is established, it can be used to
standardise the process throughout the company. There will likely
be variations, but they can be controlled by establishing a project
specific matrix that is fully accountable and auditable.
Population of records
VM is an interactive system that, when possible, interacts with the
information in the model database and other technical
specifications and data sheets to auto-populate the records. On
average, over thirty per cent of information is transferred
automatically, which reduces the manual intervention, improves
quality and minimises costs.

5. Field execution
Barcodes are used to identify and control the
data input. Each reference is a unique item in
the process, and by scanning the barcode on
single items or by entering the reference
number for group data references into a
handheld device, the relevant input
requirements will be presented for editing
and sign off. Furthermore, the information is
recorded on the device and synchronised with
the master database, which updates the
system automatically. The handheld devices
are intrinsically safe, so they can be used in
hazardous areas. When the status is recorded
in the master database as complete, the
schedule will be updated in the activity
manager to reflect the progress.
Punch item management
VM Completions has a comprehensive punch
item management system that uses the 3D
model to visualise all punch items.
Preservation
Using the same principle as completions , VM
integrates a preservation requirement matrix
into the completions and commissioning
module using the intelligent data to define
the preservation requirements and an activity
manager to develop and maintain an
accountable preservation programme. The
preservation programme notifies the required
responsible person to perform the activities as
well as archiving all the recorded records
against the TAGGED item to ensure
accountability and transparency.
Document hub:
During construction, the VM Document Hub
allows the system to have critical
documentation linked to relevant TAG items,
thus allowing easy access of data during the
commissioning phase, thereby allowing the
commissioning team easy access to data such
as System Limits, P&IDs, MTRs, FAT
acceptance records, etc.
COMPLETIONSfeatures and functionality
Why should you use VM Completions?
Direct benefits:
• Dramatically reduces the administration process during set-up.
• Removes an entire administrative process in the field due
to the use of handheld devices for carrying out inspections,
testing and performance verification and reporting activities.
• Utilising the information direct from the 3D model helps
to minimise mistakes and makes it easy to perform quality
checks against the model's engineering data.
• Improved productivity due to access to information direct
from source.
• Improved productivity due to automatic uploading of
information to the 3D model and management reporting
systems.
• Standardised visible process that is easy to understand.
Indirect benefits:
• Integrated collaborative environment means that progress
is visible to all stakeholders
• Utilising and updating direct to the 3D model means that all
stakeholders can see, graphically, the systems in question and
this ensures transparency and enables any errors to be picked
up quickly, thus minimising costs and reducing the risk of
poor quality.
• Increased transparency and visibility improves confidence in
the processes and ensures a smooth handover.
Our solution reduces the administrative burden
and bridges the interface between construction,
commissioning and operations
