The document summarizes findings from the 2016 Modern Family Index survey on working parents' expectations from employers. Some key findings:
- 70% of first-time parents and women planning babies said their employer impacted baby timing. Parents expect work-life balance.
- New parents worry about career impacts post-baby. Many report feeling less committed at work or treated worse than others after having children.
- Both women and men are committed to their careers and expect to return to work after having children. However, many employers do not meet family-friendly expectations.
- As a result, around half of new parents take new jobs for better work-life balance even if it means less pay, and over 75% consider changing

This document analyzes different types of fathers in the United States today. It notes that while the number of single fathers raising children alone has increased to 1.9 million, most fathers (24.9 million) live with and are married to the children's mother. It also discusses that the number of stay-at-home dads has risen but is still small compared to fathers who work outside the home. The document examines attitudes of fathers toward their role and debates around how much domestic work fathers report doing versus what mothers perceive.

Women-owned businesses are a vibrant and expanding segment of the U.S. market. By 2017, they are projected to account for 39% of all U.S. businesses.
The Business Journals is focusing on this growing segment and providing complimentary access to the report. To gather our findings, The Business Journals surveyed a national sample of small and mid-size business owners.
Our findings reveal key differences and similarities between men and women-owned businesses as well as profile characteristics, motivations and work-ethic of women-owned businesses.
The document discusses several articles related to child labor. It examines the relationship between fertility rates, wage rates, and child labor. One article finds fertility and wage rates are negatively correlated when bequests are positive, but positively correlated when bequests are zero. Another article discusses how unions tend to negotiate higher wages for older workers, which could decrease child labor by raising overall adult wages. Additional articles note child labor arises from poverty and multiple equilibria in labor markets - where low wages correlate with child labor and high wages do not. The best policy to reduce child labor may be improving adult working conditions and wages to shift the labor market to a high-wage equilibrium.
Singapore Fatherhood Public Perception Survey 2009Dads for Life
Findings from the Singapore Fatherhood Public Perception Survey 2009, commissioned by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), point to the need and desire in Singaporean fathers to be more involved in active fathering.
97% of Singaporeans are of the view that fathers play an important role in their children’s lives, according to the Singapore Fatherhood Public Perception Survey conducted in 2009.
The survey commissioned by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, covered more than 2,000 respondents from a cross section of the population.
96% of the fathers surveyed wish that they could spend more time with their children in their growing years.
Findings from the survey show that there is agreement that fathers have a strong influence in shaping their children’s values (82%), as well as affecting general behaviour (80%) and psychological health (77%).
96% of the fathers surveyed also feel very committed to their role as a father, and 95% of them say that being a father and raising children is one of the most fulfilling experiences a man can have.
However, fathers still spend less time with their children than mothers. On average, during the weekend, a father typically spends about 8.4 hours a day with his children as compared to 10.5 hours spent by a mother.
When asked about the roles and responsibilities of a father, 46% of respondents still point to being the breadwinner as a man’s key role in the family.

Vietnam has a traditional meal consisting of rice, vegetables, and fish. Rice is the most important part of the Vietnamese diet and is present at every meal. Vegetables are usually boiled simply without oil or fat for health. Fish is eaten frequently because Vietnam has many water sources like rivers that provide freshwater fish which are high in protein but low in fat unlike meat. The traditional Vietnamese meal focuses on simple, light dishes that are well-suited to the tropical climate. Today's Vietnamese cuisine still resembles these traditional meals.

Parents employment and children welbeingopondocarol
The document discusses how parents' employment can affect children's wellbeing, both positively and negatively. It may negatively impact wellbeing by reducing bonding time between parents and young children, and decreasing the likelihood of breastfeeding. Low-quality jobs are also linked to higher parental stress, which can negatively impact children, especially for single parents. However, parental employment provides income that can boost child wellbeing through investments in nutrition, childcare, healthcare and education. The impacts likely depend on factors such as job quality, availability of family-friendly policies, and childcare arrangements. Overall, the effects of parental employment are complex and depend on children's developmental needs and family circumstances.
More women are becoming the primary earners in their households according to a recent study. The study found that 40% of households with children under 18 now have mothers that are either the sole or primary source of income, up from 11% in 1960. Of these breadwinning mothers, 37% are married to husbands that earn less while 63% are single mothers. As traditional gender roles shift, many men are more comfortable being stay-at-home dads and husbands if their wives can financially support the family. The article provides advice for women on how to manage shared finances and budget when they become the primary source of income, including having an agreed upon budget, providing discretionary money for husbands, and maintaining adequate life insurance.

The document recommends employers implement policies to appeal to baby boomers, such as flexible work arrangements, skills training, and phased retirement, in order to benefit from this talented pool of workers.
This paper examines the issue of whether maternal employment negatively impacts child growth and development. The authors conducted research on both sides of the issue and concluded that the benefits of maternal employment outweigh the supposed negatives. While some argue children with working mothers have less time with parents and perform worse on tests, the authors found maternal employment does not harm children and can provide financial benefits and reduce parental stress levels.

- 74% of employees are open to a new job, though many are satisfied in their current role. Job seekers have mixed feelings about the job market.
- Social media is widely used, with Facebook being the dominant platform. It is used to research company culture and understand brand reputation.
- Benefits vary widely but healthcare is the most common. Over half of parents with children take no parental leave.
- Almost 20% have held "gig" jobs and many see it as a full-time role. Concerns about job automation are widespread but optimism remains.
IRJET- A Study on the Perception of Working Mother on Her Child’s Career Aspi...IRJET Journal
This document summarizes a study on the influence of working mothers on their children's career aspirations in Andhra Pradesh, India. The study used questionnaires and statistical analysis tools to examine the relationship between a mother's occupation and her child's career choice. The results found that a mother's occupation has a significant influence on her child's career aspirations. The document provides context on women's participation in the workforce in India and defines key terms like work-life balance, career planning, and the role of parents' occupations in shaping children's career interests. It reviews previous related literature primarily from Western countries and notes a lack of studies from India specifically on the influence of working mothers.
The document discusses the high and rising costs of childcare in the US and how it is influencing career decisions of working parents, especially mothers. It notes that childcare costs on average $18,000 annually and can be over 30% of household budgets in some areas. The author shares her experience with paying $2,000 per month for infant daycare. She argues that affordable and reliable childcare is needed to retain women in the workforce and help the economy. The document then provides recommendations for employers to better support working parents through options like on-site daycare, childcare subsidies or referrals, a flexible work culture, and building trust in employees' personal lives.
How Working Mothers Positively Affect Their ChildrenErica T. Yitzhak
Working mothers can positively influence their children in several ways according to the document. Children of working mothers learn that women can have careers and be independent. They see their mothers as role models. Families also benefit financially from two incomes. Research shows that children of working mothers actually behave better and are more independent than children of stay-at-home mothers. Working mothers are also less likely to suffer from depression which benefits the whole family. Overall, the document argues that the benefits of working mothers outweigh any negatives.

The report analyzed survey responses from 1,000 expectant and new mothers globally to understand their mindsets, needs, and behaviors. Key findings include:
- Anxiety and excitement levels are high throughout pregnancy and early motherhood. Confidence tends to be low but increases with social support. Top concerns are baby feeding, health, and development.
- Mothers rely heavily on their own mothers and friends for information and reassurance. They also use various online platforms and channels depending on their stage of motherhood.
- New mothers crave help with self-care, baby care duties, and reducing feelings of isolation. Building confidence and fostering connections are important. Regional differences exist such as Americans spending more time online
The document summarizes the key findings of a global survey of 5,000 women in the workplace across 10 countries conducted by Deloitte in 2022. Some of the main findings include:
- Widespread burnout among women with over half reporting higher stress and nearly half feeling burned out, yet only 43% feel comfortable discussing mental health challenges at work.
- Flexibility is still lacking for many with just one-third having access to flexible work policies and 94% believing flexibility will impact promotions.
- Non-inclusive behaviors like harassment and microaggressions increased and are underreported due to fears of career backlash. Groups like LGBT+ and minority women face more challenges.
- While hybrid work enables
This document provides a report card on how family friendly the UK is based on analysis of policy, statistics, and a survey of parents. It examines how families are faring in terms of income and poverty, employment, and public services like education, healthcare, and social care. While most parents are satisfied with public services, many families feel the financial squeeze of stagnant wages and rising costs of living. Access to affordable childcare, flexible work opportunities, and extra-curricular activities are identified as areas needing improvement to better support families.

MODERN FAMILY INDEX 2016
LABOR PAINS: WHAT EMPLOYEES EXPECT WHEN THEY’RE EXPECTING
For working women and men planning to build a family, there’s far more to consider than
the traditional elements of health, marriage, home-ownership, and savings. Topping today’s
list is their employer.
A whopping 70% of first-time parents, according to a new study, admit that their workplace
impacted the timing of their first baby. An equal number of women planning to start a
family in the short-term said the same thing.
Parent responses in the 2016 Modern Family Index survey, commissioned by Bright
Horizons®
and conducted by Kelton Global, show just how inextricably connected personal
and work life have become. Gone are the days when young professionals worked just to
support their families. Today’s generation of parents work for fulfillment and satisfaction,
and as a result factor employers prominently into the very personal decision about having
children. They’re determined to build families without postponing, deprioritizing, or giving up
on career ambitions. Yet they’re worried about careers post-baby, and they’d give up a lot
(including money) for an employer that is family-friendly.
While others may expect that new parenthood makes these employees less committed to
their jobs, this new Modern Family Index shows that just the opposite is true. Today’s new
parents — largely in dual income households — are excited by work; it fulfills them. And
they have no intention of giving that up as they plan for a family. As a result, for many
people, family planning starts in the office.
2. BRIGHT HORIZONS MODERN FAMILY INDEX 2016 PAGE 2
STUDY SHOWS EXPECTANT PARENTS EXPECT MORE
The 2016 Modern Family Index sheds new light on an old problem — that despite an ongoing national conversation about
the need for family-friendly workplaces, organizations are still not successfully helping people effectively manage families and
careers. Both women and men continue to worry about what happens to careers after starting a family. And it turns out, for
good reason. Many expectant parents have seen their colleagues passed over for promotions when they have children; others
have seen careers stall.
• More than two thirds (70%) of expectant mothers considered their employer in the timing for a baby
• 66% of first-time fathers say they have factored their employer into the timing for a baby
And their fears are well-founded. Following the birth or adoption of a child, many first-time parents say they have felt the
sting on careers in earnest. Nearly one in four new parents reported difficulty developing their careers, one in five say they
have been passed over for opportunities, and 15% report losing out on promotions.
WORKING WOMEN: ESSENTIAL TO THE ECONOMY
The data comes at a pivotal time in the national conversation about women in the workplace, the new role of dads, and
equitable expectations for both. Women today outnumber men both on college campuses1
and in earning advanced degrees,2
and no longer expect to put their career on hold while they have a family.
COMMITTED TO CAREERS
Women genuinely want to come back to work following children, more than half for the personal fulfillment they get from the
job. Despite concerns about workplace discrimination, most (96%) expectant mothers said they not only plan to return
to work after a baby, but are actually eager to.
• 92% plan to be as committed post-baby as they were before • 77% are excited to provide for their family
• 64% are excited about being a role model for their child • 53% look forward to developing their career

UNREALIZED EXPECTATIONS
Unfortunately, many employers aren’t capitalizing on the commitment and ambition of first-time parents. Many women
reported challenges after merely telling the boss they were expecting.
• 1 in 5 felt they were now at greater risk of being fired
• 1 in 5 were passed over for a new opportunity
• 1 in 4 new parents experienced judgment from supervisors and/or coworkers
BUMPY RE-ENTRY
And once back, new parents, both moms and dads, face workplace bias far beyond even their already leery expectations.
• 43% believe their employer sees them as less committed
• 39% feel their employer would prefer they found another job
• 37% believe they’re treated worse than other employees
• 35% feel actively discriminated against
NOT SITTING BACK, READY TO MAKE A MOVE
As a result, many parents — men and women — are rethinking their current jobs.
• Roughly half of new parents have taken a new job, opting for less money, but more family friendliness
• 78% of working parents considered not returning to their company after having their first child
• Three in five (59%) say they’re likely to switch employers now that they have their first child

NEW DADS FIND WORKPLACE SURPRISINGLY HOSTILE
In a sharp departure from previous generations, working fathers are prioritizing family equally with careers and seeing
increased conflict between the two.3
Men are no longer satisfied with the expectation of simply being breadwinners,
with a 2015 report showing a greater number of dads were more worried about work/life balance than promotions.4
Two
million dads have actually opted out.5
Not surprisingly then, two-thirds of working dads include their job in the family-
planning equation, and they report real workplace bias, often in even higher numbers than moms.
FALLING BEHIND
Being a dad exacts a heavy price. For first time fathers, the excitement about growing a family and the commitment to being
equal partners in parenting are often dashed by a workplace that has not progressed to meet the new generation’s work/life
expectations.
• More than a third of new dads felt negatively judged by their coworkers and supervisors after announcing fatherhood
• 1 in 3 felt it limited their opportunities for advancement
• 1 in 4 believe that the announcement of fatherhood caused employers to think less of them
“I QUIT!”
Employers need to be equally concerned about losing men and women as they start their families. New dads report that a
family-friendly environment is as important to them as it is to their female counterparts.
• 69% of working fathers say fatherhood will likely prompt a job change
• 31% would quit because they fear being undervalued
• 31% would quit because of judgment from colleagues
• 29% would quit because of favoritism for childless coworkers
• 27% felt at risk of being fired once they told their employer they were going to be a parent
