The document discusses using Web 2.0 technologies to create an open reflection platform for learning diaries and e-portfolios. It proposes using prompts to guide reflection and organizing them into cognitive and metacognitive categories. The platform would allow users to contribute and use reflection prompts, store responses in a database, and share or export them. Artificial intelligence techniques like knowledge representation, data mining and natural language processing could analyze prompt usage to make suggestions. The goal is to make reflection easier to do independently in any environment while integrating all available information.
This document provides a lesson plan template that includes:
1) Key sections such as universal themes, concept, lesson objectives, vocabulary, standards, and assessments.
2) Details on how to engage students, explore concepts, explain ideas, elaborate on strategies, and evaluate understanding.
3) Considerations for differentiation, materials, technology, 21st century skills, and effective communication.
Project Management for Mobile/#MWeb2014/AheibelAmy Heibel
The document provides guidance for project managers on maintaining a strong project vision and incorporating feedback. It discusses how the goals and context of mobile projects are unique, requiring the project manager to focus on the process enough for success while not neglecting substantive goals. It also offers tips for managing conflicts, such as using different conflict resolution modes depending on the seriousness of the issue. Throughout the document are examples of effective phrases for project managers to use and samples of requirements documentation, use cases, and guidance for testing to help projects run smoothly.
This document outlines an English language learning schedule over 5 weeks from October 13th to November 14th. It assigns different online resources to use each week, including Livemocha, Cyber-listening Page, English for All, and ESL Quizze to practice listening and improve English skills.
Drupal 7 includes major improvements such as a new testing framework, database abstraction layer, and file system handling. Additional features still being developed include better support for WYSIWYG editors, an exception handling system, and further optimizations to the code registry and removal of $op. Developers are encouraged to get involved by testing, providing feedback, or directly contributing code.
Mobiles and International Development PDG 5 Nov 09Paul Goodman
Mobile phones have spread globally and now enable a variety of uses beyond voice calls. Their low cost and ability to transmit data and photos has supported applications in governance, healthcare, banking, and agriculture. Examples of these "use cases" described in the document include using SMS to monitor nutrition in Africa, transmit medical records, enable mobile banking in Kenya, and share market information for farmers.

The last conversational hour ended with the teacher taking a picture of the students.
The economy is declining because people are spending too much money and not paying back loans, making it difficult for others to get loans. The country is already in debt from war and while gas prices are dropping, food prices are rising. Many people, including the author's parents, are losing money in the stock market, negatively impacting the author as well.
Scientists found genes that increase the risk of certain diseases. Bipolar disorder is defined by episodes of abnormally elevated or mildy elevated mood. The researchers hope these discoveries will help develop new treatments. Jean-Claude Van Damme describes his experience with bipolar disorder and overcoming self-esteem issues. Doctors warn that this research should not encourage unhealthy lifestyles with an expectation of future cures.
Acopio - Traceability and Data ManagementPaul Goodman
This document summarizes the services of an organization called Acopio that uses technology to help agricultural producer groups in Latin America. They offer business management applications to help cooperatives collect, manage, and share operational data. This data can help reduce costs, strengthen member relationships, improve quality, reduce risk for partners, and allow cooperatives to share their story. Their main application is called AcopioPlus, which works on any device and helps with tasks like farmer registration, certification, deliveries, and tracking defects. They customize AcopioPlus for each cooperative and provide training and ongoing support. Keys to success include buy-in from management, dedicated staff, clear processes, connectivity, partnerships, and understanding technology's limitations.
Contrasting Measures of Health Insurance Literacy and their Relationship to H...soder145
This document summarizes research contrasting two measures of health insurance literacy and their relationship to health care access. The researchers analyzed data from a 2015 Minnesota health survey. They found that:
1) Understanding insurance terminology was associated with higher confidence in getting needed care and lower odds of forgone care, while proactive insurance use correlated with lower odds of forgone care.
2) Correlates of health insurance literacy, such as education, varied between the two measures.
3) Both measures captured distinct concepts and translated to improved access, though proactive use only predicted forgone care and not confidence in care.
4) The researchers concluded both measures have value but more work is needed to better operationalize

The document summarizes research comparing estimates of Medicaid enrollment in 2013 and 2014 from the American Community Survey (ACS) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) administrative data. The research finds that states with the largest increases in Medicaid enrollment according to CMS also tended to have the largest differences between ACS and CMS estimates, with ACS generally reporting lower enrollment. This suggests the ACS may overstate uninsurance rates where Medicaid enrollment increased substantially. However, misreported coverage likely represents shifts between coverage types rather than uninsurance. Future research should analyze additional years of data and link administrative and survey sources to better understand reporting errors.
The document summarizes a webinar presented by experts from the U.S. Census Bureau on the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE). SAHIE provides county-level estimates of health insurance coverage across various demographic groups. The webinar discussed the 2014 SAHIE release, which incorporated more up-to-date Medicaid data and showed substantial changes in insurance rates from 2013 to 2014. The webinar also reviewed the data sources and methodology used to produce the SAHIE estimates.
Generating privacy-protected synthetic data using Secludy and MilvusZilliz

Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024Hiroshi SHIBATA
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.
Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
