Hello,
We invite you to sponsor our eighth annual Mentoring in Medicine
Science & Heath Expo on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 8:00am-3:00pm. It
will be held at Frederick Douglass Academy I located at 2581 Adam Clayton Powell
Boulevard in Harlem between 148th and 150th. We are expecting 1,500 students
from elementary school through college, caregivers, educators, community
leaders and science/health-care professionals.
Mentoring in Medicine, Inc. (MIM) is a nonprofit organization created by minority
physicians passionate about igniting an interest in health and science careers.
MIM helps students create a strategic plan for graduation from health professional
school. Our goal is to create a seamless system of mentorship, academic
enrichment, leadership development and civic engagement. Mentoring in
Medicine programs have been featured in the NY Times , NY Daily News, Jet
Magazine, LifeTime TV and CNN just to name a few. Please visit our web site at

In the eight years since our conception, Mentoring in Medicine has developed
school and community based programs that have reached nearly 50,000 students,
parents and educators. We have recruited nearly 800 health care professionals
(doctors, dentists, podiatrists, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists,
researchers, health administrators and scientists just to name a few). Together
we are assisting youth to strategically prepare an educational plan so that they
can obtain their goal of becoming a health and science professional in addition
to encouraging healthy living.
My name is Dr. Lynne Holden, co-founder and president of MIM. For eighteen
years, I have practiced Emergency Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the
Bronx. In 2007, Mentoring in Medicine held its second annual conference. Seven
hundred fifty students from third grade through health professional school
attended along with nearly 60 health care professionals. This event was featured
in the December 8, 2007 NY Times article Opening Young Eyes to a Prize: a
Career in Medicine. At our 7th annual conference, nearly 2,100 students
attended along with parents and educators.

Friends of the National Library of Medicine and the National Library of Medicine/
National Institutes of Health.
