seemingly disproves a famous mathematical
conjecture. What exactly is he disproving?

6. Unlike typical Sudoku puzzles,
normally done on paper, this
version can be played with the
components and then reset with a
new puzzle, removing the need for
pen and paper. In addition, the
numbers all have a matching colour,
making the puzzle a little easier for
some, as they can try to look at
colours instead of numbers to
determine where pieces should go.
9. Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī [was
a Persian Muslim scholar in the House of
Wisdom in Baghdad who produced works
in mathematics, astronomy, and geography.
Some words reflect the importance of al-
Khwārizmī's contributions to mathematics. “X" is
derived from al-jabr, one of the two operations he
used to solve quadratic equations. “Y” stems
from the Latin form of his name.
What are the words X and Y?
12. This shape in 3D space appears to
have an inside and outside at first
glance. The more we look, we see
that the ball rolls only on one side at
all times and yet goes from inside to
outside and back.
This peculiar shape has one side
which is both the inside and outside
or both the front and the back
What is this shape?
15. The X controversy (often referred to with
the German term Prioritätsstreit, meaning
"priority dispute") was an argument
between Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz
(begun in part by their disciples and
associates) over who had first invented the
mathematical study of change, X. It is a
question that had been the cause of a major
intellectual controversy, one that began
simmering in 1699 and broke out in full
force in 1711.

18. The most popular theory about the origin of
fear of the X is biblical: there were X diners
at the Last Supper. The X to arrive was Judas,
who betrayed Jesus. In Norse mythology,
too, a table of X proved unlucky, to say the
least. According to one of the norse myths,
the primary gods were dining together
peacefully until the god of mischief (and
frequent superhero-movie
villain) Loki showed up.
In contrast to a fear towards X, sources say
that Taylor Swift is a big fan of X.

22. ROUND 2
Rules:
Each team will be asked 1 questions of 10 marks each. They will be
given 30 seconds for each question.
If the allotted team is unable to answer the question then the question
will be passed on to the subsequent teams.
Answering out of turn results in a reduction of 10 marks from the
team’s total
There are no negative marks
23. The great 7th Century Indian mathematician and astronomer X
wrote some important works on both mathematics and
astronomy.
X explained how to find the cube and cube-root of an integer
and gave rules facilitating the computation of squares and
square roots. He also gave rules for dealing with five types of
combinations of fractions. He gave the sum of the squares of
the first n natural numbers as n(n + 1)(2n + 1)⁄ 6 and the sum of
the cubes of the first n natural numbers as (n(n + 1)⁄2)²
26. Leonardo of Pisa, better known by his nickname X,
was perhaps the most talented Western
mathematician of the Middle Ages.
in 1202, he wrote a hugely influential book called
“Liber Abaci” ("Book of Calculation"), in which he
promoted the use of the Hindu-Arabic numeral
system, describing its many benefits for merchants
and mathematicians alike over the clumsy system
of Roman numerals then in use in Europe.
Who is X?
29. X is a Canadian-American mathematician who holds
adjunct professorships at IIT-B, TFIR and the University
of Hyderabad.
He is a well known scholar of Sanskrit and learnt tabla
from Zakir Hussein. He did his PhD under Andrew Wiles.
He was the recipient of the Fields Medal ( similar to the
Nobel Prize but for Mathematicians) in 2014.
Who is X?
32. X was an Indian mathematician and astronomer of the
classical age of Indian mathematics and Indian
astronomy. He flourished in the Gupta Era. X created a
system of phonemic number notation in which numbers
were represented by consonant-vowel monosyllables. He
also correctly believed that the planets and the Moon
shine by reflected sunlight and that the motion of the
stars is due to Earth's rotation.
Find X.
35. Despite his contributions to pure maths, he is most
famously remembered for discovering how to
measure the volume of a body with an irregular
shape.
“An object partly or wholly immersed in a fluid
experiences an upward buoyant force equal to the
weight of the fluid displaced”
Who are we talking about?
38. I am a French mathematician known for my work in
geometry, particularly for introducing Cartesian
coordinates to describe geometry algebraically. I
famously said, "Cogito, ergo sum" ("I think,
therefore I am"). Who am I?
42. RULES
Google doodles commemorating maths!
Say cheese, that is 5*(no of teams who don’t get it right)
Your scores can range from 0 for all teams if everyone gets it right upto
25 points if only one team gets it right.
You will need a sheet to write answers on
Any questions?
62. Round 4: The Upside
Down
This Round gives you an opportunity for 2 kinds of questions,
1) 2 truths and 1 lie: Find the false statement about a mathematician
from the 3 statements given, get 20 points
2)Gridlock : A question is asked for which 9 answers are put in front of
you in which 6 are right and 3 are wrong. For each right answer, you
receive 10 points and if all 6 qs are answered, +10 bonus. If you answer
a question wrong, you lose all the points won in the round till that
point
