Counterculture -Nidia Soto
This lesson will take a look at counterculture and the anti-war movement of the 1960s. Students will become familiar with popular culture, images, and rhetoric of the time. This lesson would take place before the class begins to read Tim O’Brien’s  The Things They Carried.  This lesson will put the historical context of the novel in perspective. Students will then see how society at the time influences novels. For a later assignment, students will write an essay about some aspect of society that influenced the novel.  Background
Anticipatory Set Student will view images of counterculture and pre- counterculture. Students  will compare/contrast in a  Venn diagram the images they have seen. They will  then share their diagrams with other students. Students  will evaluate the differences between mainstream and counterculture. Students will watch videos and listen to music and look for mainstream and anti-war sentiments. An accent, click to edit the text inside.
