Neogeography of Edmonton's River Valley
The document summarizes research on how people understand place in Edmonton's river valley and how technology can represent those understandings. Interviews with 17 participants found they had deep, nuanced understandings of places in the river valley based on memories and experiences. However, current geospatial technologies like GPS devices and apps are limited in capturing those understandings, representing only a small portion of how people experience place. While gaming platforms provide a more sophisticated representation, the emerging GeoWeb generally does not support deep, citizen-contributed understandings of place.

Usability is the Key to Healthcare Innovation

It notes that primary care doctors are overwhelmed with paperwork and only 50% of patients receive needed care, despite high healthcare spending. Electronic medical records (EMRs) aim to help but often just digitize paper processes instead of improving workflows. The document argues for moving away from paper-based EMRs, focusing on basic functionality, and leveraging other medical staff to improve efficiency. Examples show how refill requests and protocol-based care could benefit from better team-enabled EMR design.
