8. Mentorship is good for both
A mentor in surgery is an experienced and trusted advisor who guides a trainee in
personal, professional, and educational matters.
Mentorship is not only beneficial for the mentee, but also for the mentor and the surgical
community.
Improves Surgical outcome, patient safety and surgical performance. Mentorship also
fosters a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration in surgery.

9. What a mentee desires
Day to day clinical decision-making,
Life advice outside of the hospital (family planning, time management, etc.),
Professional/academic advice.
To secure fellowship positions, performing research, and establishing connections with
senior members of the surgical community.
From these perceptions, it is clear that mentorship is highly valued amongst surgical
trainees.
