In 2013, Russia celebrated the 90th anniversary of volleyball in the country. More Russians have taken up the sport, in which Russian athletes have found great success in recent years by winning 7 awards including 4 gold medals in the past 2 Olympic Games. Under the leadership of coach Vladimir Alekno, the Russian men's national volleyball team defeated Brazil 3-2 in the 2012 Olympics to win the gold medal for the first time in history.
