3. Introduction
Mancozeb is a dithiocarbamate non-systemic
agricultural fungicide with multi-site, protective
action on contact. It is a combination of two other
dithiocarbamates: maneb and zineb.

8. Nature of fungicide
Carbendazim: Systemic with curative and
protectant activity. Inhibition of mitosis and cell
division (Beta-tubulin assembly in mitosis).
&
Mancozeb: Broad spectrum, non-systemic, contact
with protective action, acts by distrupting lipid
metabolism.
9. Mode of action
Carbendazim works by inhibiting the development of fungi probably by
interfering with spindle formation at mitosis (cell division). It is a broad
spectrum systemic protective and curative fungicide. It inhibits the
development of germ tubes, formation of appresoria and the growth of
mycelia by inhibiting cell division.
Mancozeb is a dithiocarbamates and affects the nervous system through their
main metabolite, carbon disulfide. It is a multisite protective fungicide and
inhibits spore germination and remains on the leaf surface and interfers with
six different biochemical processes within fungal pathogen cell. It contains a
systemic fungicide carbendazim and a contact fungicide mancozeb and
ensures double protection from inside and from outside.
10. Recommended Crops: Rice, ground nut, potato, chili, tea,
mango, grape etc.
Recommended Diseases: leaf spot, blast, Tikka leaf spot, Collar
rot & Dry root rot, Leaf spot, fruit rot and powdery mildew,
Downy mildew, Ealry blight, Late blight, Black scurf etc.
11. Application Timing & Method:
The product should be sprayed immediately on
appearance of disease symptoms. As per
recommendation, mix the pesticide and water at
right dosages and spray. Spray by using high
volume sprayer viz. knapsack sprayer. Use 500-1000
litres water per hectare. Before spraying the
pesticide, its suspension should be mixed well with
a wooden stick.
12. Compatibility
It is compatible with commonly used pesticides. It is
not compatible with lime sulphur and Bordeaux
mixture or alkaline solutions. It is advisable to
conduct a physical compatibility test before use in
combination with other molecules.
13. Handling and storage
Packages or surplus material and washing from the machines
and cointainer shall be disposed off in such a manner so as
to prevent environmental or water pollution. The used
packages should not be left outside to prevent their re-use.
Packages should be burried away from habitation and source
of water.
14. Packaging:
Available in 50 gm, 100 gm, 250 gm, 500 gm and 1 Kg laminated
pouch.
Hazard:
Physical hazard- Release toxic fumes if burned
Environmental hazard- Toxic to aquatic life. Toxic to fish and aquatic
invertebrates.
Human hazard- Sweating, headache, lethargy, coughing, sneezing,
itching, nausea, vomiting may occur.
15. Precaution
1) Keep away from foodstuffs, empty foodstuff containers and animals feed.
2) Avoid contact with mouth, eyes and skin.
3) Avoid inhalation of the spary mist. Spray in the direction of wind.
4) Wash throughly the contaminated clothes and parts of the body after
spraying.
5) Do not smoke, drink eat and chew anything while spraying.
6) Wear full protective clothing while mixing and spraying
16. Conclusion
Carbendazim12% & Mancozeb 63% found to be quite effective however, high
dose was most effective in reducing spore germination and mycelial growth. It
was concluded that the use of the Carbendazim-Mancozeb mixture should be
with caution since it reduced the populations of ecologically important non-
target organisms and that the recommended concentration should be
adhered .
