This document contains two short stories from friends remembering their experiences with Michael Howard Hallenbeck at barbecue and chili cooking competitions over the past 15-20 years. The first story describes how Hallenbeck helped a team whose supplies got soaked in the rain by providing charcoal to restart their cooker. The second story recalls an incident where a gust of wind toppled Hallenbeck's chili rig, spilling his chili, but he was able to scrape some up from the parking lot with help from others and still turn it in to the competition.
