Meet Coach April:
Hi, I’m April Whittington; a woman who lovesto write! I am a Published Author, Freelance
Writer, Freelance Editor, former Associate Managing Editor of a published magazine and
Motivational Speaker. My book ‘It’s My Fault’ is available on Amazon.com and Kindle;
it focuses on the path we all must travel to get ahead in life and my words force the
reader to accept sole responsibility for their actions while offering support so they
don’t feel alone on their journey towards positive change. I have a gift and now it’s
time to truly share it withthe world;everything else has been practiceto prepare me for
THIS and I have never been so excited about anything in my LIFE!By starting the non-profit
organization Creative Connects Young Writer’s Workshop, I get the opportunity to coach
young writers and encourage them to become the creativeartists they are meant to be. I
want to give them a platform to be free withtheir words and gain confidence knowing that
no matter what they write, there is somebody whowants to read it.
Communication is the coreof human interaction. Without the exchange of words (spoken or
written), there could never be connectionsbetween human beings. When you’re a writer
the desire to communicate burns like a fire! There’s something about the variety of words in
the human language that are available to use that just excites me so then I’m forcedto make
sentences and then I’m at 200 words. When I was in third grade I won a writing contest. The
topic was ‘Should Radios Be Allowed in School: Support Your Reason’. I wrote about why
they should not be allowed and made sense of it all with my choiceof words. That’s the year
I started wearing glasses and I gave Ms. Sneeden a run for her money. I didn’t even know
how much I wouldlove writing because there was always a value placed on my paper and
structure was the focus, not freedom of creativity.
We couldn’t make it withoutteachers but what does a young writer do once they learn
about proper nouns and sentence structure? I know there are 8 year-olds whojust need to
hear ‘WRITE WHATEVERYOU WANT!’and they’ll elevate their mind and love whatthey do.
I don’t wantthe younger generation to miss all the great opportunities their mind can bring
to the art of writing and it’s important they see the beauty in reaching deeper to create
pictures withwords. I have been a Meals on Wheels Delivery Driver for3 years and I loveto
do things that willuplift the community;Creative Connects gives me the fulfillment of giving
without expectations.
“Everybody isnot the same and youcan’t pass judgments on others based on appearances
and conversations; youmust always lookdeep into the soul and truly learn to appreciate a
person’s existence.”
