Janet sues the plant for disparate treatment, disparate impact, and sexual harassment under Title VII.

How Should We Then Live?
Francis A. Schaeffer (1976) recognizes the vastness of the Roman Empire and its continuing influence on modern civilization. Even though much of mankind still benefits from such Roman innovations as aqueducts and a written code of law as presented by Evan Andrews (2012), the Roman Empire provided no real solutions to the problems that have plagued mankind throughout time. Schaeffer (1976) refers to Rome as having “no sufficient inward base” (p. 29); that is, Rome had no basis higher than themselves for anything they believed or did.
The Romans had many gods; while these gods had some supernatural powers, they also frequently displayed tragic character flaws. They were no different than humans and certainly no better. Because of this, they provided no moral excellence for which humans could strive. Furthermore, the emperors who led the Roman government began to wish to be viewed as gods themselves. Unfortunately, as mere humans, they displayed faults of their own as well.
Schaeffer (1976) states that Rome villainized the rising religion of Christianity because its devotees would not recognize any god (Greek, Roman, or emperor) except the one true God and they had an absolute standard by which to judge themselves and thus the state. This was a great threat to Roman authority as well as to Rome’s “live and let live” lifestyle. They simply could not abide by Christians claim to know the one and only God that would make their own false.
This same attitude toward Christianity is easily seen in our Western culture today. Society enjoys allowing every person to do as his pleases, until one group—the Christian religion--claims to know and live by an absolute standard. While modern-day Christians in the West are not thrown to the lions, they are pressured to be accepting of all ways of life, even those in direct contrast to their Biblically-based beliefs.
Christianity has withstood the test of time because it does have an inward base. It is the belief in the one true God and His Word, giving followers the purposeful base needed for all of life.

In the years between 1955 and 1975 legislation was passed, with support from both parties that pretty much cleaned up the air and waters that we had fouled so badly by then. Today we are still struggling with those same pollution problems but we are also faced with the challenge of Global Warming, which is basically an air pollution problem.
How does the risk / damage that we face from Global Warming compare with the risks / damages we faced back in the 1950s from what we knew to be air pollution?
I would say that one thing that has changed since the Environmental Movement is that business has learned how to oppose air pollution control by the government / public much more effectively. Michael is a 15-year-old native Spanish-speaking student in a 9th grade ELL (English Language Learners) class of 23 students in a suburban California public school. He has been in the United States and attending school for the past three years, having emigrated from Mexico City with his parents and two younger siblings.

While Michael speaks English well – he is skilled in the face-to face conversational fluency known as BICS (Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills) - he struggles with reading and writing English. He manifests his frustration in a variety of ways including, but not limited to: routinely arriving late to class; failing to complete homework assignments; interrupting his teacher when she is explaining an upcoming assignment; refusing to participate in collaborative groups. Michael’s openly disruptive behavior is impacting other students in the class. Three Spanish-speaking students (two males and one female) have begun conversing across the classroom with Michael in Spanish.

In the years between 1955 and 1975 legislation was passed, with support from both parties that pretty much cleaned up the air and waters that we had fouled so badly by then. Today we are still struggling with those same pollution problems but we are also faced with the challenge of Global Warming, which is basically an air pollution problem.
How does the risk / damage that we face from Global Warming compare with the risks / damages we faced back in the 1950s from what we knew to be air pollution?
I would say that one thing that has changed since the Environmental Movement is that business has learned how to oppose air pollution control by the government / public much more effectively. While Michael speaks English well – he is skilled in the face-to face conversational fluency known as BICS (Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills) - he struggles with reading and writing English. He manifests his frustration in a variety of ways including, but not limited to: routinely arriving late to class; failing to complete homework assignments; interrupting his teacher when she is explaining an upcoming assignment; refusing to participate in collaborative groups. Michael’s openly disruptive behavior is impacting other students in the class. Three Spanish-speaking students (two males and one female) have begun conversing across the classroom with Michael in Spanish.

Ms. Watkins, Michael’s ELL teacher. In addition to two ELL classes, Ms. Watkins also teaches three sections of Advanced Placement English Language.

Type 1 Diabetic : Note: Multiple daily doses or continuous subcutaneous infusions guided by blood glucose monitoring are the standard of diabetes care. Combinations of insulin formulations are commonly used. The daily doses presented below are expressed as the total units/kg/day of all insulin formulations combined.
Initial total insulin dose: 0.2 to 0.6 units/kg/day in divided doses. Conservative initial doses of 0.2 to 0.4 units/kg/day are often recommended to avoid the potential for hypoglycemia. A rapid-acting insulin may be the only insulin formulation used initially.
Usual maintenance range: 0.5 to 1 units/kg/day in divided doses. An estimate of anticipated needs may be based on body weight and/or activity factors as follows:

The media will start to broadcast the first information that they hear about instead of gathering all the facts and making sure it’s accurate before taking it to the media. Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
