2. Task 1:
Scotland has decided that they want to become an
independent country but the UK Chancellor says
that if Scotland pull out of from the rest of the UK
then they will no longer be able to share the one
pound that the whole UK shares. This includes
England, Wales and Northern Ireland. There is a
vote being held to choose whether Scotland
becomes independent or not. The date of the vote
that will is on the 18th September 2014.
One of the things that Scotland, England, Wales and
Northern Ireland all share at the moment is the
moment is the money they spend – called their
currency. People in every part of the UK use
pounds to buy things.
3. Task 2:
I think that this story is news worthy because it is
interesting and includes everybody that lives in the UK.
The story is important and is something new to the UK
and news. This could be remembered in history as the
time when Scotland became independent and it would
be fascinating to tell people that you saw the news and
knew about it when the story was in the news.
This follows the ‘News Values’ of ‘Galtung and Ruge’s’
because the story was big enough to be put onto a news
website so that shows – shown by the Galtung and
Ruge’s news values – that the story that I have chosen
qualifies as an ‘important story’ and therefore able to
be put onto a news website such as mine.
4. Task 3:
-Name= ‘Top Stories’
-Target Audience= 13-16 year olds
-Content Focus= the newspaper would have mainly
gossip articles to attract the age group but also have
serious articles to show what is happening in the
news world.
5. Task 4:
Three Stories that I would include are:
1. ‘Arsenal and Man United in boring nil nil draw’
2. ‘Britain’s Got Talent judges answer your questions’
3. ‘Global Wildlife trade has reaches ‘crisis’ point’
These stories would be relevant for my news product
because they include celebrity gossip but also a
serious yet interesting problem that is being faced.
This will be good for my target audience because it
will make them want to read the articles about the
celebrity’s and at the same time show them
important news about the world.
7. Task 6:
My design was constructed to attract the target audience (13-16 year
olds) by using bight colours, this makes it eye catching and
appealing for the age group given. Another detail I have added is
that the website gives homework help for the school children, this
will make them want to go onto the website for homework help
and also may notice the other world news that is going on. The
website offers an entirely educational benefit. There are also
quizzes that will test the knowledge of the reader and the writing
will be easy to read and understand with a page for vocabulary
that you may not understand. There are games that will also give
extra knowledge for the children and also make doing their
homework and learning fun. This is good because they will like
knowing what is going on in the news because it is interactive and
fun at the same time. There is a phone number at the bottom if
the age group would like to ask for a certain type of news to put
on the website such as animal news or celebrity gossip. There is a
main article that might interest the readers and then some side
