1. Technology Will Destroy Our Planet
- In my presentation I will show how technology has the potential
to be a destructive force
- We as a society have enjoyed many benefits due to the
progressive nature of technological innovation
- With these breakthroughs we have found medical solutions such
as penicillin, the printing press as a medium to spread literacy and
explored our universe by travelling to the moon
- We have also witnessed the creation of the atom and by many
other forms of terrorisms
- This is why it is important that we assess the path we are taking in
terms of technological innovation
2. Technology as Disruptive Force
- technological breakthroughs have come to a point
where it is invading the way we socialize and the
manner in which we act
- In today’s society technology is not only used to help
people, but it is also a mechanism to create wealth
through making certain devices and services as a
commodity
3. Technology: an Essential Item
- With this social change more people are reaching out to the
world wide web through searches directed from a device in
their pocket
- Wherever people go they connected with news,
entertainment, games the list goes on
- With this taking place people are replacing traditional social
interaction with technology
- More often than not people choose to text one another
instead of face to face interaction or communicate through
social media such as Facebook and Twitter
4. Technological Status Quo
- More often than not people get sucked into technologies all-
encompassing web
- We tend to envision technology change as always being for
our betterment without looking at the big picture or whether
it is truly a necessity
- Rarely do people stop and think about what the pro’s and
cons are for adapting a particular technology
5. Negative Social Effects
- Some of the negative aspects we are currently seeing
are people who choose to text and drive
- Some people become so attached to their hand held
device that they need to constantly be immersed in the
digital world forgetting about the world around them
- I feel as a society as a whole we are beginning to lose
the plot
6. The Issue of Morals
- For the most part, what is morally right takes a back seat to
what's profitable
- One of the best examples is the pharmaceutical industry
- When people go to the doctor they assume what is being
prescribed to them is ultimately what they trust to help assist them
in correcting an illness or disorder
- Unfortunately this is not always the situation, such as in the case
GlaxoSmithKline
- In 2012 they pleaded guilty to criminal and misdemeanor charges
related to marketing and selling antidepressants
- Basically they paid doctors to prescribe certain drugs for uses not
approved by the U.S. food and Drug Administration (FDA)
7. We Must Strive to Innovate With a
Purpose
A great video that shows that technology can be used to motivate
and inspire people for important and practical applications

Unfortunately in our Western society its seems we have moved
away from the true underlying values that this young man
contains.
8. Genetically Modified Organism’s
-The first GMO was constructed in 1972
- By the year 2004, 8 million farmers in 17 different countries grew
81 million hectares of modified crops
- In essence we as a society are consuming GMO’s without knowing
it
- The food we consume is not marked whether it has been
tampered with and there been little research done to show the
long term effects of modified products
- The truly unfortunate part is the fact as a society we tend to
waste more than we consume that is why one must ask why there
is a need for meddling with nature
- Unfortunately this is where money comes into play by modifying
crops scientists are capable of manipulating certain aspects of an
organism such as changing its colour and appear to look more
appealing in addition to making its self life much longing
9. Technology Does Not Need to Be
Destructive
- From a Personal standpoint I feel technology does not
have to take this destructive path
- In essence it is the very human element that is at the
destructive core of the problem
- For the most part, we as a society do not know what’s
ultimately best for humanity
- We allow things such money as being an overriding
fault of our existence
10. How to Create Change
- We need to stop our ways of creating and using things that are
showing to be detrimental to society and our well-being of
humanity
- I feel there needs to be a stronger focus on what implements new
technology can harbour on our society as a whole, rather than the
mere idea of generating wealth as a means of success
- We need to make technology and it’s negative uses more of a
public issue by alerting our local MP’s and government officials
- Until we are able to assess our true fault which is greed, I feel
technology may lead us down an unforgiving path
11. Purpose of My Presentation
- The General Purpose of my presentation is promote
awareness when adapting a new technology and assess the
pro’s and con’s of whether it is truly beneficial or just another
ticket created to make a buck.
- I feel it is important to critically look at new technology for
what it is because we are heading for a future in which every
aspect of our life is being influenced by technology.
Thank you for taking time to view my presentation
