Signs can represent meanings like a symbol for learning to drive representing a learner driver. A thriller genre uses suspense, tension, red herrings and cliffhangers to grip audiences. Alfred Hitchcock films like Psycho, The Birds and Rear Window effectively use shots, camera movements, and sound to represent the psychological elements of thrillers. Representation in media involves portraying something in a way that creates a version of reality for audiences. 1. Representation: this is the process by which the media presents the ‘real world’ to an audience. Media texts construct meanings about the world, a picture, a film, a television programme, or a newspaper article re-presents the world to help audiences make sense of it.

7. Representation Representation is the way something is portrait, for example how you start to believe a programme when watching it. When we represent something we are taking its true meaning and trying to create a replica of it in the mind of our audience.

10. Location As we are filming our thriller beginning in a house and in the town we don’t need to have permission for anywhere. We will be shooting our thriller during the afternoon, early evening.

11. Actors For our thriller beginning , we are trying to have as little characters as possible. Our protagonist is going to be Helen Hancock, as she studies drama, would enjoy being in our film, and would be able to get permission from her parents as she is under 18. Our character is a school girl, this is why we have chosen someone our age. We haven’t currently not chosen our male role, as we haven’t found someone that is suitable to play it.

12. Costume and make up The costume and make up is crucial for the protagonist’s role as her costume is a sign for signified meanings, she will be wearing her school uniform to show her age, role and the way her uniform is warn will show her shy and innocent personality. Later her uniform will be messier to show the panic and tension. The male role will be dressed in full black as this is stereotypical for a thriller, we don’t want his face to be shown as it would be more mysterious this way. We are not going to use branding and logo’s in our thriller as this is advertising that we do not have the rights to show.

13. Dialogue and sound We want to include as little dialogue as possible as we want to use music and white noise to build the tension, however are brief states that we need to include a few lines of dialogue, we wanted this dialogue to be over msn however this does not match the specification of the exam board. We are planning on making our own music too on garage band.
